I still miss Montgomery.  He’s become a big part of what Detroit does.  Legit solid all around back.

Zay Flowers wins the award for Biggest Dipshit.  Screwing his team with a 15 yard taunting penalty, then fumbling at the 1 yard line, then cutting his hand open hitting the bench.  What an idiot.

I could understand the fumble because he’s close to scoring and I don’t think he ever saw the defender who knocked it out.

Have to know the situation. If he doesnt stretch the ball out, it’s either 3rd and 1 or 1st and goal from the 1, depending on where he goes down. No need to stretch the ball out there.

I get being aggressive but the first time the 49ers leveraged it to start the comeback and this time the Lions gave up the tying points.

Right, you can't fumble the ball at the 1 yard line.  And "not seeing the defender" just makes it even worse.  Fatal move that cost his team dearly.

Eh, he’s being aggressive, the goal line is right in front of him.  I don’t want a player who just goes down instead of trying to score.

If that means the results of both are the same I’ll be plenty happy with it.

But you’re probably going to score anyway. There’s no need to try to reach for the goal line. By stretching the ball out, the upside is probably adding fractions of a point (the difference between for sure scoring and the slim chance of getting stuffed twice or more from the 1). However the downside is potentially costing yourself 6 or so points, which is what he did. The slim upside just isn’t worth the risk.

If that’s a coach decision I’d be trying to weigh those things.  In that split second we have a player who sees the goal line  and he decides to go for it.  I can understand that much more than his decision to stand over a defender and taunt him.

also, I am so done with journeys don’t stop believing.

I can't believe Campbell passing on points and going on 4th there; if I'm a Lions fan, that's gonna gnaw at me for a loooonnngg time.

Well, since I definitely won't be watching the superbowl, I hope they talk about Taylor Swift non-stop all game, and cut to her between every play just to piss the meatheads off. Maybe advertise it as the Taylor Bowl.

Absolutely devastating loss there for the Lions. Campbell’s 4th down tries while in Field Goal range should be scrutinized, though they’re true to his form and the way he coaches. You live by the big balls, you die by the big balls.

time will tell if this does lasting harm to the team or if they’re built for long term success. For the Bears sake, I hope it does lasting damage.

To each their own.  I'll take the smart player who knows to secure the football in a conference championship game rather than one who leaves it available to be punched out.  And no one is suggesting that he just go down.  You protect the football over everything else in that situation.

I'm glad you feel this way.  Not that I really needed assurance, but now I'm certain that trying to score a TD is the right way to play football

Why do you hate football?

I don't hate it, I just don't care enough about this particular matchup to outweigh my amusement at the silly people sent into apoplexy by all the attention the Swift/Kelce ting is getting.

My wife thinks I should be a head coach. I told her on the first 4th and short, you gotta kick the field goal here. 3 scores is better than 2 scores. Once it's 3 scores, go for it on 4th and long if you want, I don't care. But, you need 3 scores and neutralize any chance at momentum. Not only did they go for it and didn't make it, momentum shifted in a way that I've only seen a few times. It was a tidal wave.

Then he gets a reprieve. You take the tie here. You can't allow yourself to go two scores down. But they went for it and went down 2 scores.

I feel bad for the Lions fanbase. You get do overs in regular season. You don't get do overs in playoffs. There are times when going for it on 4th makes sense. Those were two times that you just don't do it.

I'll also add that Zay Flowers learned a valuable lesson in his game. One that people will look back at and laugh at over and over again, but he learned. I haven't gone back and looked at where each of the 5 personal fouls that were called on Baltimore happened and how many points were earned by KC by those penalties extending plays or killing drives for Baltimore, but it sure seemed like the difference in that game to me was those penalties. Hard way to lose.

I think they deserved each of those penalties

Oh, I'm not saying they didn't. I'm just saying those penalties factored in the outcome. The only penalty I questioned was the first in back to back holding calls on KC's RG. I didn't really see a hold there, although I can see how and why it was called. From a different angle, it could easily look like a hold.

And the coaching is not absent of blame.  It was a very poorly designed offensive gameplan overall.  I think I read that the Ravens only called 6 running plays to a RB the entire game.  Hard to imagine the logic that went into that given they're the best rushing team in the league.

Coupled with KC not being all that great against the run.

Funny.

Aren't you the guy that challenged me to a 1k gamble-off and then ghosted/changed his name when I accepted?  Are you going to challenge me to a fight next?  What's your new login going to be?
