What are the best notification setting to ensure that I only get notifications to people who respond to me or react to one of my posts?  I checked this morning and saw 8 notifications and thought "wtf I'm definitely not that popular" but it looks like the notifications are for new posts in posts I've commented in.

This problem has been nagging at me for months now. It's on the list of things to fix, I just never get around to it. Hopefully early in the season I'll be able to properly address it.

Here are my personal notification settings. If you go to Mentions & My Content section, I have reactions notifications turned off entirely. They're super annoying.

I have all email notifications disabled, I also find those annoying.

I don't know what to think of star wars or marvel stuff if I can't see Mojo and Derwood argue about it. It is inhumanely cruel of our new overlords to hide the forums' expert opinions from the hoi polloi.

So true, Derwood is probably getting close to providing his thoughts on Quantumania and you don't want to miss that.

my guess is they want new users to see a baseball message board, and not a politics message board full of cubs fans. of course once new users find out about the secret social board where we're all talking about movies and politics and tv shows, they're gonna ask why they can't talk about those things and they're just gonna have to open it up to everyone or do away with it anyway

The vast majority of posts happen in that section,  so getting rid of it would be a really bad idea

It's more for advertisers who are evaluating the site.

Just until I figure out why the automated promotion system isn't working. What the system should be doing is taking everyone who joined 2+ years ago and has 10,000 posts and promoting them into a new group with more visibility.

What the system is not currently doing is what I described above.

I’m shy of 2,000 even if/when my missing posts come back but I’ve been bumming around this site for 20 years so I hope I get to stick around the social forum after those parameters are implemented.

I flipped the setting, removed the post quota, and made the promotion based entirely on when the user joined.

Curious to see if that breaks whatever bottleneck is preventing it from working.

Yep, stupid thing is still not working. Back to the drawing board on that, gonna have to look at server logs at some point and find out what isn't running because there are a bunch of niggling little errors that don't make sense.
