Terrible game. Not sure why I watched until the end

Well they were in it for awhile like they seem to be most weeks.

Fields seemed to hold onto the ball too much today when he wasn’t being rushed but I’m not sure whether it’s because of indecisiveness or because the Bears were playing Arena League WRs

It's got to be discouraging knowing even if you throw a good pass, it's more likely than not to get dropped. I wish he had Arena League WR's, all they do is pass the ball, wouldn't be playing if they couldn't catch the ball.

Texans win. Their remaining schedule:

Jaguars who I believe the game is meaningless for as they have a win and in scenario in week 18.

Colts who have Saturday as coach.

There’s a chance I think

Bears haven't drafted* 1.1 since 1947

*I don't know if they ever finished #1 and traded down since then

The Player they drafted, apparently he was injured, but still, yikes

Fields mentioned that he reaggrivated that shoulder injury during the game. Could explain the lack of rushing attempts or really the heavy reliance on handing the ball off.

I was reading that if the Bears lose out and the Texans win one more game, the Bears move into the #1 spot. Is that right? 3 wins and a tie is better than 3 wins?

14 losses is more than 13.

tie counts as 1/2 of a win and 1/2 of a loss. So the Texans with one more win would finish 3.5-13.5 compared to the Bears 3-14

So who owns the tiebreaker between Minnesota and SF? If SF does then week 18 will mean something to Minnesota if SF wins or Minnesota wins next week.

49ers all but own the tiebreaker due to being 9-2 in conference vs 7-3 for the Vikings. Only way Bears-Vikings game is meaningless (I think) is if SF loses to the Raiders and the Vikings win. Even then it would also require an Eagles win over the Saints so that the Eagles clinch the 1 seed (Eagles win that tiebreak over Minnesota due to H2H win)

If Miami loses out (including tomorrow vs the Packers), the Jets lose next week vs Seattle, and the Patriots lose week 18 vs the Bills, the Jags can back door into the 7 seed with a win next week vs the Texans and a loss in week 18 to the Titans (who would win the division and the 4 seed). There might be some other stuff required with the Steelers and Raiders, but I’m not about to go that far.

Sooo just hope for a Miami win tomorrow so that the Jags game vs Houston is truly meaningless.

I deleted my initial post becasue it was dumb, but anyway, while the game may be meaningless for Jacksonville on paper, I don't see how it would affect their effort at all, they're not gonna mail in week 17, knowing they need to win week 18.

I have been impressed with the progression of Gordon throughout the year. I think he can be a solid #2 corner. The cost difference between a good #2 corner and a good slot corner could help with the FA budget.

Interestingly enough this exact scenario occurred in 2013 with the Eagles (many will already know what I'm referring to). The Eagles had the Bears on Sunday Night football in Week 16. The game was completely meaningless for the Eagles as they needed to win their week 17 game to make the playoffs, and the game against the Bears would not have any affect on anything. The Bears had everything to play for as they needed to win one of their last 2 games to make the playoffs and wanted to avoid a win and in game against the Packers in week 17. Well Philly came out and beat the Bears 54-11, then won the next week to make the playoffs. The Bears went and lost to the Packers in week 17 to be eliminated.

So yeah fair point

In retrospect, he looked overmatched and lost in the early season, but he's def improved as the year went on

I probably don't care enough to rewatch the game, but it seemed like Gordon was on the outside most of the day with Blackwell in the slot. I thought both played well, as did Jaylon Jones. But IIRC, Gordon had a LOT of coverage on Diggs, and he only ended with 2 catches. I wonder if we don't have an outside CB on our hands moreso than the slot CB they've tried to make him into.

I know we've been told the slot is so important in this defense, but I personally think outside CB is more important, if Gordon can handle opposite of Johnson going forward, you have a strong tandem there.

NGL, there's a lot of pride involved in NOT wanting the #1 pick for me. The Bears haven't finished with the #1 pick since 1947. The only time(s?) they've had the worst record in the league, it's been tied for the worst. Most famously, they lost a coin flip to the Steelers where they took Terry Bradshaw.
