I'm hoping there's more to the offseason than this, like some here I'm not hip on Bellinger' bat improving. In fact, I cannot recall the Cubs ever "fixing" a broken bat, I sure it's happened, I think. But it appears to me players such Bellinger, Heyward just get worse when they're Cubs.

Depends on how you define it, but guys with significant offensive improvement on past form would be Montero, Valbuena, Coghlan, and Wisdom in recent years. Further back you have Aramis, Lee, Barrett, and Todd Walker too.

Have we come full circle? Do we want Jim Hendry back?

Probably could say they fixed Rizzo and Happ too (if last year is close to his new norm), Fowler put up his 2 highest WAR years here and highest OBP and wRC+ year and highest non Coors BA year too and think there was reports they tweaked some stuff with him.

I guess there are cases of players improving as Cubs, I'm certain the biggest factor is the health of his shoulder. Healed and there's a chance he'll bounce back.

No. Bellinger's swing hasn't been the same since his injury. I want the Cubs to do the things that a big market team is supposed to do. They have like $50M coming off the books next year if Stroman opts out. They have around $80M to spend this year. I want them to "spend wisely" and make good trades to get good players. Bellinger is fine for a stopgap for Davis or PCA. Taillon is fine as a solid middle-of-the-rotation pitcher for a decent price (big injury concerns). But neither pushes the team into contention.

i'm not sure what the hell they "fixed" but there was also edmonds lol

That may go down as the most befuddling turn of events in my Cubs-fan life. It was like for one year, with one guy, we somehow got a hold of the pixie dust ourselves for once.

Most of our lineup was on that dust that year. Cubs OBP went 333, 354, 333 from 07-09. 08 was unlike anything we had experienced before with the whole lineup working counts and taking walks.

In the regular season, of course.

it sucks the postseason was canceled that year. And coming right off the postseason cancellations of 03 and 04. Glad baseball survived.

how are you fittin to give up a grand slam to james loney

this reminded me that the other day i had one of the espn morning shows on and Greenberg had to read a tweet that included the word "finna" and he pronounced it "fine-uhh" and everyone roasted him and he just sat there like he had never heard the word finna in his entire life.

The reverberations from the canceled 04 postseason still echo in the Cubs clubhouse
