I feel like the over/under for him was $100M, so if you want a sign the market's healthy this is probably a solid one?

Just eyeballing the Roster Resource page, aside from Diaz, the Mets are shedding 80-85 million of LT payroll, of which Diaz now eats up 10 million(the difference in his 2022 salary and new LT value). Of that 80-85 million, they are losing their starting CF, 4 SP, and over 300 relief IP. Granted, that 85 million is unlikely to be a cap with their ownership, and they may set a record for QO picks in an offseason. But that is a lot to replace on the pitching side(and they don't have a wave of arms near MLB ready) and they were a pretty old team to begin with. There's some sneaky collapse risk if they don't nail the offseason, and there's at least a question of how much Cohen will be willing to push the envelope(and even then, for more 30+ pitchers?)

$40 guaranteed over two years for Rizzo. That's a data point for Abreu.

Contract crowdsourcing had Rizzo getting 3/54 and Abreu getting 2/32. Feels like that 2/32 should still be possible, especially if Abreu does have a fondness for staying in Chicago.

Mariner's get 1 year of Teoscar Hernandez from the Blue Jays for 3 years of reliever Erik Swanson, who is coming off a lights out year, and SP prospect Adam Macko who was #8 in a bad Seattle farm. If last year is who Swanson is, I rather like this deal for Toronto.

When does the show start? After Christmas?

I'd expect there to be a handful of moves over the next 2 weeks, then a flurry of moves the week of the winter meetings(starting 2 weeks from Sunday) and into the week after, then a dead period at Christmas, and finally a steady stream from January til ST. Tomorrow is the non-tender deadline which should be the last big roster domino that needs to fall before teams start getting particularly aggressive about moves.

I'm hoping we get to a better pace than we've seen the last 4-5 years. Moving all of the administrative deadlines up by a week or two definitely helps, though it's still very silly that the arb stuff all happens in January. It should be in November ahead of the arb deadline.

Plus in that '18-'20 period you had about half the league either tanking or very worried about the luxury tax. Currently from eyeballing I think we might be closer to half as many teams? More active teams should lead to a less deliberate pace.

The days of 90% of the off-season being done by New Years are probably over, but I'm hoping we can at least get comfortably north of 50% again?

Suter was a total Cub killer so good to see. Though most of his damage was against the old core, I think the newer players have actually hit him around a bit.

I'll be curious to see what the contract looks like. Based on projections he was in that group that would be a little too underwhelming for SP1 but a little too expensive for SP2 in most situations. 'More than 8 million' doesn't really tell me much since I would've been shocked if he got less than 8.

Don't love this. I don't think Abreu should have been part of a Cubs' Plan A, but he'd be a big part of a lot of Plan B scenarios

I'm disappointed about the Abreu news. I thought he was the easiest and cheapest way to add a known bat this year.

But I probably agree that three years was too long of a deal for him.

I’m good passing on Abreu at 3 years, I liked him a lot as a target but not a guy to go over the top on I feel. I wonder what it takes to get Brantley now, would assume Houston is letting him walk. If they feel he could play 1B I love his addition as a “professional bat” he can play some COF too with Happ/whatever CF addition and also be a DH.
