DVOA update. Offense and team DVOA ticked up just a hair. Both 29th ranked. Defense DVOA came catering down to 26th.

ST DVOA is apparently elite at 3rd overall, but I think is heavily weighted toward the kicking game where Santos has been perfect. But it can't hurt that Velus actually let's a fair amount of kicks touch back from what I can recall.

Couldn’t disagree more that we don’t need to get a TE. Kmet is “fine” but especially with who Fields is and what kind of player he is, I want a tight end with the best hands possible, a guy who’s dependable as hell as a release valve. Kmet has proven he’s not that guy, his hands just aren’t good enough.

I don't think he's proven that he's not a dependable receiver. He's had 20 targets this year in 8 games.

Also, this is a Shanahan offensive scheme. This isn't a very TE friendly scheme, unless you have an elite talent at the position like Kittle. The Niners, Rams, Packers, Jets, post Gonzalez Falcons, old school Broncos, all run/ran the scheme and only one with big TE years are the Niners who happen to have a top 2 TE in the league.

If you are spending any real money on a TE, you are playing that TE. Not OVER Kmet, but WITH Kmet. This isn't a 2 TE friendly scheme at all. Hell, the Bears have 5 TEs on the roster, the worst WR talent in the league, and STILL aren't throwing to the TEs very much. Get receivers. The player Fields is, is the kind that wants to throw the ball down the field and make big plays. TEs don't make big plays unless they are named Kittle or Kelce. Even the one in question (Gesicki) is only averaging 11.2 per catch, which is great for a TE. But pales in comparison to a non-possession WR.

Yea I think Geisicki is the only real TE you can make the arguement for, at least on the higher end of the market. Maybe you could make an Engram case, but Gesicki's case is much stronger. I still wouldn't view Geisicki as a replacement for a big time WR. But again, if Poles wants to get a little extra frisky on O and just flood the weapons, I think he's a guy you can do multiple things with, without it needing to be strictly 12 personnel sets.

I noticed DVOA still horsefeathering hates Fields even while the arrow is pointing up elsewhere. I'm not too concerned about that at the moment, I think DVOA is not especially well suited towards evaluating individual players, but it is worth noting.

I was hitting the reply button before I even finished reading, but bingo. It's not. I love the team/unit rankings but the individual player stuff is EHHHHHHHHHH.

Roquan to Ravens

A late 2nd and a late 5th, what a snooze

I didn't really expect more given the circumstances and the fact that he hasn't really put anything great on film this year.

How are they possibly going to be able to spend enough money this offseason?

Yeah. I'm fine with committing hard to the tank and piling up draft picks. It's the thing you do in sports these days.

But I have no idea how they're going to find useful ways to spend all that cap space. It's way past the point of diminishing return in the short run.

Ryan Poles is doing work. Was not a fan of paying $20 million a year to a linebacker, especially one that hasn't looked remotely good this year.

DVOA has player grades?

The work is actually acquiring talent. He hasn’t done that yet.

Wow. I didn't expect that at all. Nobody is safe. 100% trade Montgomery now. I'm guessing a lot of the defensive issues yesterday was short week, combined with travel, combined with deflation from Quinn being traded. Can't imagine the defense is any better against Miami of all teams.

So Roquan hasn’t “looked good” this season whatever that means but he’s leading the NFL in tackles so it’s not like he’s out there with his thumb up his ass.

Roquan presence either way is not going to make a difference this Sunday.

Love getting another top 60 pick. The elephant in the room here is Josh Allen, Tua, and Hurts all started to show they were turning the corners at this point in Year 2 and all were able to add an elite WR before Year 3. Have to wonder if Poles is setting up a similar situation. I just have no idea who that WR would be or if Poles even would be willing to make such a move that isn't building thru the draft.
