Must be so inconvenient for the fans who took half days off of work to enjoy a Wrigley day game.

The Rays game I understood...it was only an hour and the Rays aren't coming back to Chicago (Sox or Cubs). But moving a game against the Pirates back 6 hours when the Pirates can easily play a DH at some other point in the season is strange.

I think about how many people are day drinking and will be beyond smashed by 3:30 and won't make the game.

If they already know it's not going to start on time or there's certain delays ahead, I'm not sure why you'd stay with the scheduled time when that's just going to cause issues with pitchers and guys getting warmed up/cooled down.

It's just fairly unprecedented to move the game time 2 hours before the original start time. Maybe if it becomes the norm it won't seem so annoying.

but they wouldn't be enjoying a wrigley day game because it's raining.

Presumably they'd have time to make plans for the makeup game or sell their tickets if they can't make it. If its a doubleheader tomorrow or Sunday, at least they have more than a few hours to change their plans. Maybe they bought tickets to this game last week because they wanted to go to a Cubs game in the afternoon and a Bulls playoff game at night. Now they have to scramble to sell the tickets for a crappy team playing a crappy opponent in crappy weather.

I suppose that's just the risk you take when buying tickets and while it sucks they just have to deal with it. But before this year (and 2020 with no fans at the games) I've never heard of moving around the game time on the day of game so I would've been completely caught off guard if I had tickets today.

I'm not stunned about these drastic game-time moves if only because with the schedule already being a bit compressed I'm sure teams are taking pains to avoid having to squeeze in more doubleheaders whenever possible. In a non-lockout world I think they probably would've just sucked it up and had a rain delay.

Although now that I'm thinking about it I wonder if the players brought this up in negotiations, that they would prefer teams move times around when they are pretty sure about the timing of crappy weather.

I think if you game it out the only way this makes a material difference is if there's a low likelihood of the game being played this evening. Everyone seems to agree that weather was gonna keep the game from being played this afternoon, and if you can't make it in the evening*, then you actually have better odds since you have a small window to offload the tickets instead of showing up to a rain delay and leaving before things get going. If there's a low chance of playing the game then you do have less of a window compared to just postponing.

*I would guess a Friday afternoon game probably has the least possible folks who can make the afternoon but not the evening too, compared to other day/start times

The idea of extending Willy isn’t a good one at this point. Which also means the return for him in a trade will be unimpressive

Keegan Thompson is just absurd

Jonathan Villar is also absurd but for completely different reasons
