Kaplan patting himself on the back with the "I told ya so's"

He pretty much had bust written all over him IMO

his degenerative back condition scared me, but idk about "bust". i thought he could have a few solid years before health took too much of a toll

Between his gutting of team, indifference toward Fields, and rumored shopping of Jenkins, it reads to me like Poles wants a clear reset from the Pace era. I think Fields has to win on his own to keep his job in 2023. I wouldn’t bet on a Smith extension (unless his self representation can be manipulated) and think Montgomery is probably dealt if they start slow. Wouldn’t rule out a Mooney trade. Poles seems to be doing what most other Chicago teams have done of late and is hoping to lose a lot this year and draft high next year.

I agree, and it makes little sense in the world of NFL football.

Is Jenkins injured again? Have a bad attitude? Just not getting along with the staff? For a team that needs linemen, I don’t get this.

The weird thing to me is Poles seemingly sided with Jenkins on that dumb penalty last year that resulted in a fellow offensive lineman berating Jenkins for the time/place of the offense. Poles said he was more or less disgusted with a lineman telling another linemen not to be a redass idiot defending his QB. Maybe something is going on communication wise with Jenkins not quite getting the pseudo support followed up by demotion to potential swing tackle.

Reports are saying that the team is actually more impressed by Fields than they expected to be. The Smith extension is interesting. While, I would have agreed with you completely a week ago, it seems like the "hold in" is happening because they are working on a deal. I don't know why Smith would show up at all if there was no progress on that front. He's being helpful in practice, Eberflus is speaking highly of him to reporters, and he was one of the few vets that showed up for all the offseason stuff (and he modeled the orange helmets damnit!).

I also think Mooney is a guy they have identified as someone they really liked, even before camp. I could see him being traded as a big year means a 20M+ payday for him. And if they could get a 1st+ for him, I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

Basically, I think this is an overly pessimistic view of the state of the franchise. That being said, you have every reason to feel this way. This has kinda been on the verge of a shitshow for the past 5 months.

Exactly the thought I had as well. I've always operated under the assumption that it was Jenkins and 4 other guys on the OL this year. On the field, he seems to embody the tough, athletic persona this team has preached about since these guys were hired. I guess off the field though, there are supposedly issues with his personality. Doesn't like being yelled at or challenged or some horsefeathers.

Somehow I find myself more interested in this team and training camp than I have over the last few years. I guess there are so many unknowns with a new FO, new coaching staff, 2nd year QB and gutted roster that its interesting to see what pieces pan out and whether we can unearth some gems. Like Braxton Jones has been the only OL getting LT snaps the first 2 padded practices. Are they really going to have a 5th round rookie start at LT? Did Poles find something, or is he going to get Fields killed midway through the first quarter of the Bears 1st preseason game?

I'm ok with not extending Roquan, in accordance to my long-standing belief that athletes shrivel up and die after age 26.

Velus Jones is going to die like midseason then.

From an injury prospective I wish them well and hope they recover but, really the only one worth caring about is Jones. Pringle and Harry are never going to be more than placeholders so, here's hoping Jones' injury is not one that keeps him out for too long.

I keep hearing rumors about Jalen Reagor possibly on the block. Would you be interestedi or is he a complete bust?

For Jenkins?

That's what I read, but not from any reputable source. Seems like he's on the block though so interesting thought if Poles wants a WR.
