I do like the fact that the offensive staff is an eclectic group. Given that they hired a defensive HC and are very Colts centric on that side of the ball, I think it's good that they aren't trying to simply replicate another team's offense. I don't know that it will work, but I do know they won't be as rigid as the last regime was of doing things a certain way. I think they will truly make this about Fields and getting input on what he likes and is good at.

Yeah, that offensive staff is kind of interesting. The OC, QB and TE coaches are each very young and inexperienced. The WR/PGC is very experienced, and the OL coach has a decent amount of experience, but a mixed bag of a resume. I am going to guess they will lean toward an experienced voice as RB coach, but I have no idea if there's been any talks about specific people. The other thing is there hasn't been a lot of title inflation. No assistant head coach, no CoCoordinators. The one example is Tolbert's duel roles. It will also be interesting if they add a name in the summer like when Nagy brought in Tom Herman. He had Childress as a consultant as well from the start, but we haven't really heard of anybody filling that type of role with this staff, yet.

So they hired another 50-something with 25 years experience at the RB coach spot. David Walker, 7 years in NFL as RB coach and time at Pitt with Getsy. There's a gap on his resume since 2018, so, what's up with that?

Some background about why he stepped away and what he has been up to.

I don't think it is anything like Brady/Gronk. Gronk was a retired dude falling apart physically. Nobody was looking to sign him until Brady went to Tampa. Adams is the best of the best free agents. He'll go where the money goes, not where just where daddy goes.

Yeah, I can't imagine Rodgers would want to go somewhere where they aren't already a playoff caliber team. Are there any playoff caliber teams that need a QB and can also afford $30m for Rodgers and $30 for Adams? The rumors I've read is that Adams wants $35m. Doubt anyone gives him that. But, if he really wants money like that, some crappy team with money to burn just might give him a ridiculous contract. Jacksonville?

Broncos have 40Mil in cap space. That's enough to sign Adams. If they trade for Rodgers, he'd almost certainly be willing to restructure to make that work.

I heard a Green Bay reporter say that his expectation is that the Packers franchise Adams and then trade him and Rodgers to Denver for 3 firsts, two seconds and Jerry Jeudy

I could see Denver doing it with their defense pretty good as is...

Honestly, I can see both teams going for that. Denver instantly becomes a contender, though that division would be fun as hell. They have enough young talent and they should be competitive at least until they have picks again in 2-3 years. For the Packers, it allows them to rebuild their talent pretty quickly.

Where's the "dislike" button?

Is it me or does Adam Hoge' pose above remind one a little of Blue Oyster Cult' Agents of Fortune album cover? It's a 180 of the cover.

Every time I see his Tweets, it's the first thing that comes to mind, great album by the way, more than just (Don't Fear)The Reaper.

Yes

Bisacchia's ST also routinely rank in the 20s. Literally his only value was that he was a HC for half the year this year.

Deciding correctly on Grant, O'Donnell, and Scales will have more of an impact on ST than the coach.

I'd probably look for a new punter. O'Donnell isn't special. If he stays on cheap 1 year deals, then whatever but new blood would be nice.

I'd definitely look for a new long snapper. Scales kinda sucks and had some iffy snaps last year.

I'd probably keep Grant, moreso for his speed and gadget play ability than returning. Bears have no shortage of return guys (Herbert, Newsome, healthy Cohen), they don't have much speed or WR help.

Never bad to have ST competition. Brinkley was a mainstay for Tennessee for a while, not sure what happened the past few years except that his Wikipedia says he was on the covid/reserve list in 2020 and then was cut and bounced around some practice squads. But was liked enough to ink a 5 year deal in 2015.

Winslow has bounced around a lot in his young career. Interesting if he's real competition or just a body.

You never want to not have a first round pick but probably a comparatively good draft to not have a first round pick.

Also a very good reason to not have a 1st round pick, a QB better than any QB you could have gotten this year or by staying put last year.

I do wonder who the Bears would pick if they somehow had Fields already, but also had a 1st rounder. I love the top of this draft at edge rusher (especially 4-3 DEs now that the Bears are in that front) and offensive tackle. But DE is literally the best position on the roster. OT could obviously use a top 10 pick, but would likely require moving one of last year's picks to guard or Borom to the bench.

I'm guessing they'd go OT and just have an bunch of young talent there and let it sort itself out. Linderbaum would probably be worth the 7th pick at C. He's really good. Top CB with Booth and Stingley would be an option, though I don't think that position is top 10 pick important in the Eberflus defense. No 3-techs that elite. Could maybe take one of the top LBs at 7, but be a reach.

The fun scenario in the "what if the Bears have Fields and a their 1st" is it necessitates an assumption that they retool in 2020 to get a top 10 pick in 2021.

No Quinn (and 30M extra dollars and a comp pick)

No Foles trade (and 20M extra dollars and a 4th)

No Arob tag and extra 18M and comp pick (or maybe a trade).

So probably they then spend some of those dollars back in 2021, but say upwards of 50M more free capital and 3-4 extra picks?

I'm usually an anti-tank type but especially with hindsight the cost of say 3 wins and a playoff appearance in 2021 cost a pretty penny.

Saw a rumor that Gallup expects to be 100% by August. Could be coming from his camp to up his FA value, but if true that would definitely make him that much more desirable to the Bears (and other teams). The one thing I didn't like about Gallup was the chance of missing camp and the start of the season. Would love Fields to get an entire camp throwing to his main targets unlike last season. Wouldnt stop me from signing him but makes him slightly less appealing.

I'm anxious to see who they target in FA at the WR position.

Gallup also had surgery just like a week ago. There's apparently a thought that waiting 4-6 weeks after the injury makes for better healing of the ACL.
