Bears are going to beat the Giants and Vikings to finish 7-10 and keep Nagy based on how he was able to keep his team engaged and playing hard

Thankfully I don’t think anything in the next two weeks will save him his job

But I’ve been wrong before

There’s no way Nagy survives - even if they finish 7-10

Weird predicament for the Giants next weekend. Coming into today the Bears were projected to give the Giants the 5th pick and the Giants were set to draft 6th. If the Giants beat the Bears it hurts their draft stock and if the reverse happens it hurts their other draft spot. I guess root to tie or a covid cancellation?

Obviously the players play to win, but the "upside" of making your own pick worse is bumping ups little all the other rounds.

Missed all but the Bears 1st TD drive in this game. Just saw the TD and 2pt conversion. Has there even been a single play made for Justin Fields this year where a receiver made a play on the ball as good as those two? Hell, Byrd and Graham dropped easier ones in the game last week with Fields' on the field.

I was thinking about that as well. Its hard not to be "wins matter" and realize the circumstances that led to this one.

I'm happy the Bears won, but still, horsefeathers Nick Foles

Nick Foles is fine. He probably should be a Bear next year as well. They have to pay him 7.67 Mil for him to go away and only save 3Mil by doing so. Already guaranteed to spend 12.67Mil on the backup QB position, even if you don't have one on the roster. The 3Mil you save from Foles would likely be spent right back on a backup, who probably isn't as good as Foles in a pinch.

The Bears have now won all 3 games against teams that are worse than 7-8. They are 2-10 against teams 7-8 or better.

The Falcons are the anti-Bears. They're 7-8 having played just 4 teams over .500 (Bucs, Cowboys, Patriots, 49ers), with wins against the Lions, Panthers, Jets, Jaguars, Giants, Dolphins and Saints, losing against Washington, the Eagles and the Panthers in addition to their blowout losses to the aforementioned 4 good teams. They have a real shot at the 7 seed with one more game against the Saints in week 18.

So to sum up, to win games the Bears must beat the schedulers, mindless ownership, bad GM personnel decisions, horrible coaching, the refs, and the other team.

Likely because of that schedule, the Falcons do not have much of a shot at the 7 seed. They lose tiebreakers to every other team in the running, so they're eliminated with a loss @ Buffalo in Week 17. Even winning that and beating New Orleans, there are 2 spots for:

San Fran(Needs to win vs. HOU or @ LAR or tie twice)

Philly (Needs to win @ WAS or vs. DAL or tie twice)

Minnesota(Needs to win @ GB and vs. CHI)

My thoughts as well, sure does seem like those dipshits have a case of the drops when Fields is the QB in any case, my real issue is with them playing at all. Players like Graham and Byrd will soon be ex-Bears, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to play them. Sure Graham Jr. got beat for a TD, so what? He could be part of the next good Bears' team, got to find out what you have, him alternating snaps with another soon to be ex-Bear Burns serves no purpose. That BS Nagy-Dusty Baker sprouted about doing what's in the best interest of Bears was clearly BS, so, so, ready for him to be a former HC of the Bears.

With any luck, about this time next Monday hopefully we will see reports trickle in that Nagy is out and won't coach the 17th game of the season.

For most any other team that's plausible and makes perfect sense for our highly dysfunctional Bears? Not too sure, I'm not even confident Nagy' going to be fired at all, for that matter. It's entirely possible the McCaskey' may still do something really, really, really stupid.

Does Todd Bowles or Doug Pederson do anything for you?

Doug Pederson isn't a bad coach, but I think would be very bad for the Bears. The similarities between Pederson and Nagy aren't enough to inspire confidence that the team would be going in the right direction. Both were Andy Reid OCs before becoming head coaches. While Pederson had much more success than Nagy, they basically run the same offense. This seems like more of the same for the Bears. Went from after 2018 thinking that getting the right RB for the scheme was the missing piece (traded Howard, drafted Montgomery). Then after 2019, they didn't have the right TEs or coaching staff (out Shaheen and Burton, in Kmet and Graham, changed OC, OL coaches). Then after 2020, it was definitely the QB and they had to get Dalton, who was handpicked but clearly not the exact same as the previously hand-picked QB the previous offseason. Going from Nagy to Pederson reeks of these type of moves but now it's the coach that's the problem. While that very well may be a large part of the issue, the scheme, the players and the player acquisition stinks. And I do think that's the type of hire that happens if you keep Pace. That type of move says to me, "hey, we're really close. The players and acquisition are fine. The scheme is fine. But the situational playcalling!" Down to the fact that Pederson was with the team part of camp this year, and guys like John DeFillipo was on Pederson's staff. It's just delaying the inevitable change that is needed in this organization. You can't tease all this change and then run it back with Doug Pederson.

Todd Bowles doesn't do much for me either. He definitely deserves another shot, but I don't think Chicago is the right place for him. I have no questions about his ability to lead. I don't know that he has proved he has the connections to build a strong offensive staff. Meanwhile, I think Raheem Morris is out there and looks like a better version of him, IMO. Morris similarly had a 3-year HC stint with a (then) perennial NFL cellar dweller and had 1 really good year. But Morris has also since worked with Shanahan, McVay, both LaFleurs, and currently works with a bunch of potentially great young offensive minds in LA. Bowles works with a couple of good offensive minds, but he isn't bringing Leftwich as his OC. Morris is also 13 years younger.

I want Byron Leftwich, but I feel like it makes too much sense for him to go to Jacksonville

First two early rumors for Jax were Pederson and Caldwell. Maybe just a by-product of them being available now, but also possible Jax will prioritize someone with HC experience.

Well definitely seems like there will be no firing until Black Monday.

Question I guess if they "inform" him so they can start interviews, but with GM and maybe entire leadership structure still under question, it doesn't really matter.

Boooo.

We’ve beaten the schedule thing to death and the Bears are not a good football team but just looking at how the Dolphins went from 1-7 to 8-7 and saw their schedule. I think even the Bears would go 5-2 with this schedule

vs. 4-11 Houston

vs. 8-7 Baltimore

@ 4-11 Jets

vs. 5-10 Carolina

vs. 4-11 Giants

vs. 4-11 Jets

@ 7-8 Saints with emergency QB so bad they were begging Drew Brees to unretire this week

I just realized the Dolphins won Week 1. So they are the only team in the history of football to have a 7 game win streak and a 7 game losing streak in the same season.
