A harrowing reminder that even if you get a relatively cool eccentric billionaire owner, these [expletive] don't know what they're doing.

Caveat, there is no such thing as a cool billionaire.

Lol. Who could have known that was a terrible hire besides basically everyone.

One of the dumbest coaching signings in recent memory. Meyer was the only candidate than Khan met with in-person. I wonder when it’s going to hit Khan that he’s the person holding back his team.

Nice beginning to your statement lol.

“Darrell Bevell will serve as interim head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for the balance of the 2021 season. Darrell succeeds Urban Meyer.”

He still seems cool

Urban always gave off super douche vibes and I’m so thrilled that he showed the world his true colors.

I can't believe we're in a timeline where I'm glad ND got stuck with Charlie Weis instead of that human garbage pile, but here we are

The worst thing is that Meyer is sure to land a big college gig next year.

Unfortunately that can't be ruled out. However, USC was reportedly turned off by his off-field stuff and that was before this year's veritable boat full of off-field stuff, so I have to think (hope) at least a couple big jobs who otherwise would want him are of a similar mind now.

Tons of early success but left the team at its peak. Berated underlings and allowed spousal abusers to stay in the organization. Not sure if he ever kicked a player but one of his players did lose a leg. Lot of similarities here.

ND, Oklahoma, Florida, LSU and USC all just hired a coach (too bad about ND, supposedly Urban's dream job). Texas, Tennessee and Auburn just hired a coach last year. Ohio State and Michigan won't open unless their coach leaves for the NFL which I see as unlikely. Penn State and Michigan State just extended their coaches. That is a big chunk of the programs that would be on Ohio State's level in terms of prestige (and some on a level below). Obviously Bama and Clemson aren't opening up unless Saban retires/Debo leaves. I guess options would be Nebraska (lol) and Florida State.

I suppose Oregon is in flux. They promoted their DC to be their head coach, but that doesn't seem to be a permanent thing.

I think Urban is pretty toxic at this point as a coaching hire. He's got more than enough money to just sit around the rest of his life and do nothing. I suspect he may end up doing TV spots for Fox or ESPN.

Part of me wonders if Meyer tried to get fired so he could pocket 50Mil for just 13 games of work. NFL coaching contracts are guaranteed, unless they are fired for cause (outside of wins and losses). Definitely seems like conduct issues worthy of cause to fire him and not pay him the remainder of his contract. But that could also lead to an ugly lawsuit. Wonder how the money is going to play out.

But damn, you can't kick players, ditch your team to get grinded on at the bar, call your coach losers and blame them for stuff that didn't happen, all while being a failure on the field including potentially ruining the best QB prospect in a decade. I knew he was a piece of horsefeathers, but damn.

Also, Jags almost HAVE to hire Leftwich right? One, he's a top coaching candidate and happens to be the OC of an elite offense which would fit very well with TLaw's skillset. Second, Meyer was hired at 10-12Mil/season reportedly, Leftwich would be much cheaper without HC experience and not a huge name. Third, he was a former well-loved Jag QB and the team could really use some good PR to create goodwill with their fan base.

It felt pretty obvious this is what he was doing. He regretted taking the job from the start. He can probably take 2 years away from the game and will be highly sought after again.

Yea I wouldn't be surprised if some attorneys pile up a huge list of anyhting remotely possible as cause and hold that litigation threat over Meyer for a settlement to get out of some but not all payments.

He's a slam-dunk choice.

The only thing that should stand in the way is whether he actually wants to work for that owner.
