Friends at NSBB - I have mentioned here before that this was "coming soon" and now it's coming to fruition, and launching in 9 days on March 1st! This is a project I have wanted to get started for a long time now, and I am excited to make it happen! The Northside Baseball Podcast is for Cubs fans interested in casual conversation, and are frustrated by the lack of coverage by national sports media. The Cubs fan who is looking for a community where they can talk about their favorite team. That community is right here at the NSBB Forum! I can't wait to get this podcast started, and kick-start more conversations and more discussions. You can find the podcast on most every platform, including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify! I have a preview trailer already posted, you can listen and if you feel so inclined, subscribe so you can be notified of every episode!

Additionally, you can follow the following social media accounts for updates and episodes:

stories about da bum

It might be kind of cool to have Tim on as your first guest to talk about the genesis of NSBB way back when the ESPN boards and MLB were a cesspool. Talk about spikes in people signing up for the board, board and troll management (Modzilla), and the ups and downs of maintaining a website dedicated to the Cubs during good and bad runs.

But, I would definitely focus most of the podcasts on the current team and climate. The trick will be trying to stay balanced with criticism if you want to try to attract media types or get some time with players or Cubs people.

Oh man do we have to stop swearing again to attract good podcast guests?

Like the podcast idea but this board is so irreverent that I'm not sure how new users would take this place. Worth trying though.

I'd love to hear discussions about previous Cubs moments/seasons that people have forgotten about. Desipio is doing something like this, having an episode on every Cubs season in the Tribune era, and for example in the 2007 episode, they spent 5 minutes talking about Ronny Cedeno getting thrown out at 2nd after a walk. Something I completely forgot about but was hilarious at the time. There are so many small moments like this that are lost in time due to a 162 game season. Random walkoffs, random baseball oddities, etc. But what they do is pick a year at random and discuss it with no research. This could be more planned.

Just an idea that may or may not jive with your vision for the podcast.

My overall advice is if you're the one doing the legwork for building up a podcast, make it one that you would want to listen to even if that feels more niche/less popular. Trying to drive forward other people's ideas in the name of popularity won't get the best outcome.

For more specific ideas, if the goal is to improve traffic to the site, then using the podcast as a vehicle for the site's content makes sense to me. Have people on to flesh out their particularly unique posts/opinions, that format could be as serious("Frank Schwindel is the 1B of the next 5 years") or not("Shut up about the Beatles already") as you like. Maybe some oral history stuff about events in Cubs history(Bartman, Nomar trade, Theo's hire, WS Game 7, etc) as experienced at NSBB would be neat.

Yeah, go for the Deadspin/Defector or even Grantland/The Ringer-style mix of sports and pop culture; cool tangents and deep dives and lists/rankings and horsefeathers for both worlds. Stay away from being too sports-centric a la the dinosaur that is AM radio, and DEFINITELY stay away from the nightmare that is Barstool.

Oral history stuff is usually pretty interesting. Maybe a series about games that lead up to great Cubs moments or classic calls. I'll second the mention of discussing big trades like Nomar, etc.

2004 alone could be several episodes. Culminating in the clusterf finish to the season. People honestly like to relive disasters

I feel bad when somebody has a legitimate question or looking for feedback and they get a bunch of cynical jokes.

Any chance you can get the DuCross brothers on though?

I thnk a podcast replete with cynical NSBB jokes would be amazing.

Craig Walter Brazell, I will never forget that guy and will never not hate Dusty for it.

"Brazell made his major league debut on August 17, 2004, for the New York Mets. He played first base and played a total of 24 games, mainly as a pinch hitter. He hit his first and only major league home run on September 25, an 11th inning walk-off home run that significantly crippled the Chicago Cubs hopes of returning to the playoffs."
