That was a total screw job but I immediately felt better when I realized it’ll only hurt Nagy’s case. Fields took a big step forward and that is what matters.

I trust he’s smart enough to know that on his own.

I don’t trust Nagy to emphasize that with him though.

Happy about Field’s play.

Happy Nagy took another step closer to the door.

Feel awful for Cassius Marsh.

Kind of crazy how tough the Bears schedule has been and will continue to be. So far…

7-2 Rams

5-4 Bengals

5-4 Browns

0-8 Lions

5-3 Raiders

7-2 Packers

6-2 Buccaneers

3-5 49ers

5-3 Steelers

6-2 Ravens

0-8 Lions

8-1 Cardinals

7-2 Packers

64-46, aided greatly by the 0-16 combined from the Lions games

That’s 10 of 13 games against teams currently at least tied for a playoff spot including 5 games against the top 3 seeds in both conferences

He clearly initiated contact with the player, this requires some action by the NFL, probably will not happen nevertheless, it should.

In fact, Daniels was within the tight end block when he made an attempt at a block. Moreover, there was no contact on the play there's nothing to be judged contact either happened or not, its not a judgement call.

Yeah refs were terrible. Don’t forget that that taunting penalty gave the Steelers 3 points and I really don’t think the Steelers get the TD on that last drive if they were down 4.

Anyways I don’t really care. What I saw from fields is a huge win in my book

Honestly I think that FG from the Steelers to go up 6 was the only thing that caused the Bears offense to go for a TD there. If they get the ball back down 3 they play it safe once they get into Steelers territory and get a tying FG, leaving 2 minutes on the clock, and the Bears lose by 3 instead of 2.

Still a terrible call, though.

Was a fun game to attend. I knew the game was officiated poorly (aren't they all at this point?), but oh man seeing some of the highlights. Bears got screwed.

I did catch the Daniels BS penalty. I was screaming "what is illegal about that?" You can block low in the TE box, which he was in. Secondly, he didn't even tough him! That's literally a 4-point swing in a 2-point game. I caught the BS DPI call. Johnson turned his head at one point to look for the ball, but then faced the WR but the WR was the aggressor and making contact. That was a big reason the Steelers scored 3 points....in a 2-point game.

I didn't catch the roughing the passer call on Fields, though the hit on the sidelines I was screaming for a flag. Didn't lead with his head, but hit Fields in the head with his hands. The offsides calls on Quinn were iffy based on still photos I've seen. His head looks to be right at the ball, not over it. And we were told this was not a penalty in the GB game when Fields threw an INT on what should have been a free play.

But one thing I will say is that I think the taunting penalty was the right call. I thought they called it for the kick. But Corrente said he called it because Marsh stared down the Steelers bench and lingered on the field.....which he did. The punter had to wait for him to leave the field to get in position to kick. That being said, Corrente very clearly and obviously didn't throw the flag until after contact that HE initiated. If the call was because of the stare down, then the flag should have been out long before the contact he made.

But hey, Justin Fields is probably good. Larry Borom is probably good. Cole Kmet had a great game. Jaylon Johnson and Roquan Smith are good. Eddie Goldman dominated in the run game. The Bears actually look to have some good young pieces, especially from the last 2 drafts. I'm excited for this team with some of the dead weight gone and a better coaching staff (please choose a better coaching staff).

I've calmed down a little now and heck, this season wasn't likely to result in playoffs anyway, and I'm left with the simple fact: Justin Fields just went into Pittsburgh, one of the toughest venues to play as a visiting QB, and brought his team back in the 4th quarter against a pretty good D. There aren't a lot of QBs that will do that period, much less a rookie in his early starts.

This guy is a legit star in the making guys. I'm 100% convinced.

I see a lot of people saying this but he was clearly reaching to grab his flag before the contact. Unless you are saying he initiated contact to make the flag he threw more justified?

The taunting rule is horsefeathering stupid and should not be used to alter the outcome of games.

Yes, he was grabbing for his flag before the contact, but he didn't throw it until he initiated the contact. That says to me he threw it to more justify it. I think he was going to let the sideline stuff go. And I don't really buy that certain calls shouldn't alter the outcome of games. Been 9 weeks, players know the taunting rule. Can't do it with the game in the balance and give a team an automatic 1st down. That being said, I agree in general that the league needs to have as few "judgement call" rules as humanly possible.

I always thought the taunting rule was for when a player got into another player's face, or basically was really close and shouting stuff. That's not at all what this was. It's not like what he was doing was hurting anyone. That's just got to change. It can't be a player simply staring at the other team's bench from 20 yards away. I guess I understand the ref saying, look this is what I'm told to do so I did it. But that just says to me, they've got revisit this thing.

I saw the ref pull on the flag before the contact. To me there was no question that the contact had nothing to do with it.

I'm upset with the TD being taken off the board by the low block call which didn't even make contact, and the late hit on Fields which if the league is going to say they are protecting QBs then they must actually protect QBs. And if the ref didn't see it, then he needs to figure out how to be better at his job. There simply can't be an excuse for that.

But ultimately I'm going to take away positives from this game because 2021 Bears is all about Fields' future as a star QB and I'm definitely seeing it happen.

I know they cant take context into consideration but the dude was cut by the steelers, called off the practice squad that morning, and he was a good 10-15 feet from the sideline. That plus the game being on the line makes it ridiculous. I know refs cant call it based on those things but i mean come on, no one wanted this dumb rule to begin with and now a young player showing a little emotion after the greatest moment of their football career is going to alter the game. I just hate everything about it even if you can justify the penalty as legitimate.

After doing some research I think I'm really coming onto Greg Roman as an option for the Bears HC. He seems to have the most diverse background. Lots of stops and worked with some great staffs, so he should have lots of connections to build a staff. Suits his scheme to his players. Not a system guy, I can't even tell if he comes from a "tree". Obviously he's done amazing work with Lamar and the Ravens O.

I think he'd be able to not just fix the O and finish developing Fields, but build a great top to bottom staff.

We are seeing the leap.

This, I think Justin Fields will be just fine even under Nagys tutelage. He always was the most experienced, and talented option in the draft along with Lawrence, even a bad coach won't delay his ascent too badly

Hopefully they still fire Nagy and replace him with someone good but I think Fields ascending might limit those embarrassing blowouts on national TV that motivate the McCaskeys to actually do stuff.

Idk, I think Nagy would need to show success in the playoffs this year to stick around, at the very least make the playoffs
