pay the Cardinals to take Arenado's contract

sign Bryant to a contract that probably ends up nearly equal to Arenado after the money you send to the Cardinals

at least they ended up with the 3 months younger player I guess

edit -

Arenado was 8/280 ending in 2026

Bryant + what they are paying still of Arenado is 7/233 ending in 2027

KB is going to off in Colorado.

I look forward to projecting what his numbers would look like if he would have stayed healthy for a full season

Bryant's only gonna get one big contract so he should get as much as he can. Denver is a nice city and he's gonna mash at Coors. He's already got his World Series. Seems like a smart decision.

Dongs > winning I guess

Yep. That deal just screams “I’m taking the most money and that’s the only reason I’m going there”.

TBF guys....he won, won for a franchise that hadn't won in over a century, and nobody gave a hoot within not even a few years, spent the half decade after hearing how actually not good he is

He's there to put up some numbers and keep marching towards the HOF

Yeah, Kris seems to be all about his family and digging his life, then also playing some baseball. Good for him. I’d likely do do the same, honestly. But I’m also glad the Cubs didn’t sign him long term.

Good for KB, I wonder if we ever made him an offer this offseason. Interesting that KB ended up with a contract in the range of what we likely offered as extensions when those talks went down. Edited by Cubswin11

Joc Pederson to the Giants. Does that make Jorge Soler the last chance to get a former Cub position player back on the team? Wouldn’t be a bad move to sign him….

The Phillies must have not given him a good offer bc he would play with schwarber and Harper there and have a better chance at winning.

I doubt they would’ve signed Schwarbs and KB

Oh I don’t blame him at all. Good for him getting paid.

Maybe he figures he can sign the contract, play there for a year or two and then get unloaded to a team that actually wants to win.

Because my perception of the western United States is all skewed I thought maybe Colorado made sense as it’s close to Vegas and with twins on the way having family somewhat close by would be a perk but it appears Denver is about as far from LV as Chicago is from New York lol

As somebody who has travelled between the former pair quite frequently for 3 decades, it’s quite easy. Probably much moreso with $200 million.

"Close" is relative. The drive through Utah is nice, and there are a lot of Mormons in Colorado, too.

Profar and Hosmer, take on all or most of their salaries and throw in something like Happ/Ortega/etc if they want some MLB talent and then raid their prospects. Profar is a nice fit as a guy who can play everywhere and gives you a lefty bat as well.

29 teams treat the luxury tax as a salary cap, one team pretends like it doesn’t exist.

That Dodgers network really brought them a ton of money to invest in the team. The Cubs should do something like that then we’d be able to have a giant payroll.

They Dodger’s owners aren’t busy leveraging the Dodgers to buy and develop property around Dodger Stadium and partnering with other shady oligarchs to buy soccer teams in England.

The Guggenheim Group is also in a different stratosphere of wealth/resources.

The difference between the Dodgers and the Cubs is that the owners put winning on the same pedestal as making money.

Also the Dodgers have done the relative austerity thing before, they slashed payroll to get under the tax for 2018, 2019, and 2020. We’ll have to see if they decide to do another one of those cycles again with the updated thresholds and penalties.

Yes, they are. They roughly purchased the Dodgers IN CASH for what the Ricketts family is worth. This isn’t apologizing for the Ricketts but The Guggenheim Group blows them away.
