I enjoy reading the threads about the farm. Looks like it’s being restocked very nicely.

i've tried getting into that again, but it just makes me sad, because nothing compares to doing it before when we had guys like kb/baez/schwarber hitting 2 home runs each every night

Cubs trade away their entire identity, Cardinals 16 wins in a row, Brewers and White Sox win their divisions. Good stuff

Cardinals postseason will last a grand total of 1 game should the play the LAD

White Sox will get 1 home game and be done

Brewers will be done in the NLCS at the latest

You and I both know very well that the Cardinals are somehow going to end up winning the WS. That franchise is just blessed that way.

Seriously. They have easily the worst team to ever win it (06), maybe the 2nd-worst (11) and if they hadn't gagged a 3-1 lead to SF in 12, they'd probably have won that year too with a playoff spot that had never existed before the season. This is what they do.

The 2011 team was blessed by playing against the worst-managed team to ever appear in a WS.

At the very least they’re going to touch up Scherzer or Buehler for 5 runs in 5 innings as they win the WC game.

Damn, if those just didn't count they'd only have like 7 more WS than the Cubs

Remember how much we laughed when Brewers fans thought their front office and future outlook was better than ours? What idiots they were

I’ve said this before but I don’t care about championships before I was born. It doesn’t bother me that the Cubs sucked when my dad was a teenager while the Cardinals were winning titles.

Yes I would be waving those 80 year old titles in my rivals face if the roles were reversed but it doesn’t bother me that they do.

I try not to think about that. Actually I try not to think about anything baseball related outside of the Cubs immediate sphere

What exactly have the Brewers done to make you envious?

Not been the Cubs.

But in all seriousness nothing. I’m not particularly jealous, it just annoys me to think about the reversal of fortunes

it ended up being that way, but they weren't right. they thought we were doomed because we traded away guys like eloy/gleyber and then gave out some bad contracts. they didn't know/predict that a) the ricketts would suddenly cutoff spending and b)all our good players would slowly get worse

Speaking of those guys

They suck too

I actually feel you on that

It's just funny seeing a bunch of Cubs fans lament the magic dust of the Cardinals when they've just flat out been a far better organization than the Cubs for like 95% of our existence. We squandered the one chance we had to reverse that in such a loveable losery way.

The second one was predictable. I remember that fangraphs article about aging curves being super young in modern MLB being very unpopular with cubs fans.

horsefeathers owners, desperately glomming on to trashbin rando white dudes as baseball heroes, sweatily hoping the farm system poops out 1-2 players even remotely as good as the Cubs will never trade/pay for, griping about the Cardinals being eternally better...it's weird how quickly it's like the last 5+ years of Cubs stuff never happened. Bravo, Ricketts.

It is hard to take a "wait and see" attitude with this ownership, but all things being equal, the Cubs are in a good position to nab talent and get right back into contention in a very mediocre division.

I'm not demanding playoffs next year but I want to see a solid step in the right direction this offseason otherwise I'm going to be pretty disillusioned. I think I care less about the team right now than I did during the rebuild, and it seems like based on attendance and activity on boards like this that I'm not alone.

Honestly, I don't really have a problem with the last 12 months outside of the broadcast booth.

My problems are with not investing more during the '18 -'19 offseason, and Theo not having the stones to begin dismantling during the '19 - '20 offseason (which may not have been necessary with more support the year prior). I think Jed's done mostly the right things since he took over. Even things that didn't work out, like essentially trading Schwarber for Joc, I think were good process with bad results.

they should have just kept kb/darvish/kimbrel/baez, let rizzo walk, added on, and continued competing. they chose not to compete.

They put themselves in an impossible place this offseason. They could have done what you suggested but they would have been capped out (the Ricketts version) so I don't think they would be able to add on as you suggested. They be stuck with a middling farm system and a core that has somewhat underperformed (relatively speaking since they won 95 games in 18 and won the division last year) and all 30 or older (or will be soon).

I don't know if that was the right approach, or what they actually did do which was strip the entire identity of the team and start over. Or something in between. There was just no obvious direction to go IMO.
