Happ is also 26 and was really good last year. I'd let him get as many AB's as possible down the stretch to see if he can figure it out.

I get it, but I have also never been convinced of Happ being anything more than a fourth outfielder.

Happ is so much more than a 4th outfielder. He's a podcaster a coffee entrepreneur and art dealer too

Reading some comments on an A's forum about this trade and I would say 75% of the fans thought they gave up way too much. And their respected prospect guru said this about Deichmann:

He's basically like Wendle or Robertston, good players that we traded away that could have been useful, but we cashed them out for immediate need. I’ll point out that Wendle made the All-Star team this year. But he wasn’t going to take 2b away from Lowrie during that stretch.

I expect Deichmann will outplay Jason Heyward’s best numbers at Wrigley. He’ll flourish there. He’s average to slightly above defensively, and adds value as a baserunner.

...

Deichmann’s not a difference maker in that sense, he’s more of a useful piece. A Robbie Grossman, a Nick Martini, a Seth Smith.

Yeah, I think the absolute best case scenario for this type of guy is Jesse Winker, with Seth Smith being the likely outcome.

Suddenly we've got a lot of LHH OFers who you might not trust for full time duty but are probably the strong half of a platoon:

Happ

Heyward

Ortega

Deichman

Rivas

With Davis coming on fast, I feel like you could probably add a really good RHH OFer this winter (Tommy Pham?) and consider the outfield set. God knows exactly how it shakes out, but there's enough quality that it will.

I saw someone compare Reichmann to Chris Coghlan with more power. I don't hate that. Maybe he doesn't become a star but that's a useful player.

That's an interesting offensive profile comp. At initial glance, I would've said that Coghlan had more "game power", but looking over the stats, Coghlan's "game power" wasn't as big as I remembered. It looks like a reasonable offensive profile comp - Cubs are hoping that the improvement in approach for Deichmann may mean something, and that he taps into his power more, but it seems a reasonable offensive profile comp.
