Cubs activated Nico and sent Sergio to AAA instead of getting rid of Sogard.

The Cubs play their 21st road game in their last 29 games, almost all against above .500 teams, a stretch that has effectively ended their season.

Lucky Cubs fans will likely get to watch their stripped down team play a lot of meaningless games against a lot of bad teams in the second half.

Watch out, the offense is heating up! 9 hits today in only 6 innings!

They’ve hit their quota of 2 runs though, so let’s hope it’s enough

Cubs broke their long streak of 8 or less hit games but of course they have only gotten 2 runs out of it. What an awful offensive team

two games this series where ross has not used chafin with a lead, but then gone to him when behind/tied. good stuff.

He was only going to cover one inning. Saving him for the seventh when the Reds would have better hitters due up is not a bad decision.

I agree, the morgan over chafin (or wieck, or brothers or scott eyre’s corpse) vs votto decision the other night was far worse than today. leaving a clearly worthless winkler out there as long as he did today was pretty bad though.

If you watched one of the last 20 games of Cubs baseball, there is a 75% chance you saw them score 2 runs or less and a 90% chance you saw them score 4 runs or less

You don't need to be so rigid with your usage. The rest of the league has seemed to figure this out. Could easily have asked Chafin to get 4 or 5 outs and handed it to Kimbrel.

During their 9 game losing streak, the Cubs have scored after the 5th inning just twice, both to tie the game and both preceding immediate bullpen implosions of 4+ runs to end the game

I come back to check the score and see they lost. Haha. Wtf.

The phone to Jed is gonna start to heat up.

I must applaud this team. They’ve moved to “I actively hate their guts and root for them to lose” in record time.

Very impressive. A month ago many were proclaiming this their favorite Cubs team in years. We had taken over first place and were 2nd in the NL in run differential.
