And like that, there's not a team in the NFL in a worse position than the Bears. And now we get to watch a desperate Ryan Pace do work to further ruin the future when they do make a change.

I'd much rather be the Bears than Detroit.

Detroit is going to have at least a 1 year headstart on their rebuild with a new coach and GM. Granted, it's Detroit and things will likely not turn out well but I'd rather be them.

There’s no such thing as a head start. You either hire the right people or you don’t. Detroit has consistently done a worse job at everything but getting a qb and even that big leg up didn’t help at all.

Yeah, the concern here is what will a desperate GM - one who already seems to poorly evaluate draft capital and limited funds in a capped league - do when everyone knows he's on the hot seat.

We shouldn't be surprised though since this ownership group has been slow on this front except during the especially bad Trestman era.

I thought Detroit had a head start 27 years ago with Barry Sanders lol

Well I never wavered from the two being in a package deal. So I still prefer this toit having only been one or the other, even if I probably would have gone with a restart.

Some questions still remain. Will they have a win now mandate? Might there still be an announcement about Ted Phillips future at a later date?

I want to draft a QB to dream on so bad. I don't even care if he's a project that we have to sit for a year first or something. Just gimme something.

Part of me wonders if the past two days was Pace pitching a plan for 2021 that didn't require any crazy trades of future assets, extreme contract backloading, or overdrafting a QB.

Hopefully it's that or they have a vote of confidence to retool, but had to pitch the retool plan.

If its, "win in 2021 at all costs", things are about to get dumb.

As to QB, I 100% want one QB drafted, ideally 1st or 2nd round, and within top 100 at least, though if they draft like a 6th rounder I'll just have to latch on and hope they somehow got the next Tom Brady.

And then I want a QB drafted in 2022. And 2023, and every year until they fall ass backwards into at least like a Ben Roethlisberger caliber QB. Then they can go to drafting one every 3 to 4 years.

umm..we all do

Do you *really*, though? Truly, in your heart?

I'd settle for a smothering D that puts *some opposing QBs on the stretcher because that was fun back in the early/mid 80's, but people hate me when I say things like that so..yea, QB it is

I feel like if there's a Phillips announcement it will be of the retirement kind of move and won't be announced right away. I don't know why, I just feel like they'd want to delay it to make clear this is Pace and Nagy's ship to run for 2021 and not make it seem like the President hire is somehow an important part of the football operations.

that, or they are giving Phillips more control and deeply concerned on how to spin it to the Chicago media.

it can always get worse

Itll be fine. Nagy and Pace are currently sizing up trade options with Houston and Dallas. Just how many 3rd rd picks do they get, and which team will fold first giving us a perennial All Pro qb. It's a tough sled, especially when talking about the salary cap, so dear Phillips is there with his rather sizable collection of slide rules lending a fair and kind hand.

Who am I kidding we're fucked

Trying to do my best, "compete in 2021 without totally leveraging the future" offseason plan and damn this is tough. Which doesn't give me tons of confidence about what's coming the next 5 months.

I feel like we're on the verge of one of those Bears seasons where the team will somehow pull a 13-3 season out of its rear end (complete with two losses to the Packers) with a humiliating first round out in the playoffs, followed by extensions given to everyone because the team did so gosh darn well in the regular season.

13-3 is definitely not happening next year. Have any of you looked at the North's schedule next year?

AFC North and NFC West

Feels like the Bears constantly are facing a tough schedule like the ebbs and flows of other divisions is perfectly lined up with the Bears rotation haha.
