yea but, why would Watson want to go to the Jets
he wanted the guy the jets hired as HC.

Also one or two good seasons with that team will immortalize you in ways a Philip Rivers type career for 20 years never could.

Mark Sanchez is no Highlander, but I suppose we still do remember him as a Jet.

Had to google who Philip Rivers was to help me understand your point.

He's a real guy? I was just making up a fake name as an example.

Yeah, he's an architect in Houston. Maybe he should've done the new addition to the Guggenheim.

Also interesting about that is Jeremiah is basically the new mouthpiece of the Jets with Mehta bounced out last year. He and Douglas worked for 4-5 years together in Baltimore and he was rumored to be joining the FO when Douglas got hired until he didn't

The Saints are supposedly as much as $100 million over the cap in 2021. One or more of Kamara, Michael Thomas, Ramcyzk, and Lattimore might become available

Kamara and Ramcyk are not going anywhere. I can see Lattimore and and MT being available, along with Emmanuel Sanders, Jared Cook, Kwon Alexander, Marcus Williams, Sheldon Rankins, Janoris Jenkins, and one of Trey Hendrickson and Cam Jordan.

They are going to have no choice but to push money out to the future. Ramczyk and Lattimore will probably get extended with HUGE signing bonuses and very low base salaries so they can save 8-10Mil on each.

Jordan and Armstead will get extensions also w/ big signing bonuses and low 2021 salaries. Jenkins, Alexander, Josh Hill, Patrick Robinson, Rankins, and Easton are easy no-brainer cuts. Marcus Williams walks in free agency. Even if Brees retires as expected, they'll have to hold onto him until June 1 to get the most savings this year (will also have a cap hit in 2022 though).

The thing w/ Lattimore is that they probably have to lose all their DBs other than CGJ, so they'll have to completely revamp that position if he's not back. He's probably their most tradeable player though and could return multiple picks (including a 2nd), which is important since they'd be down to like 35 players when they cut all the players they need to.

So if I remember right and assuming he offically retires, Brees will count against the cap for $22.65 mil this coming season (all dead money) or $11.15 mil plus 11.5 in 2022 if post June 1st. Is that correct or did I miss something?

Mickey Loomis is a MFing wizard when it comes to maneuvering to get under the salary cap, but I don’t see them pushing too much money to the future. Out of the names listed, I think Ramcyk and maybe Lattimore are priorities. If they resign Marshon, it’s probably an indication that this is retool rather than a total tear down. But yeah, the rest of those names are likely gone. I can see PRob resigned to replace Janoris.

It seems crappy to penalize a team when a player retires. There should be a better way

But it’s not penalizing the team. They signed him to a contract. They structured it the way they did for a reason. They knew the risks.

I guess the only real argument is that they can ask for pro-rated signing bonuses back when a player retires. So if they can get the cash back, why wouldnt they also get the cap back.

Anyways, yea Loomis has been a cap wizard of sorts, but it was always designed around rising cap and very significant most years. Things are much more limiting now. They'll get out of it somehow, but the bill comes someday.

One thing they'll have to do is put a bunch of dummy years on contracts too. Can extend out guarantees up to 5 years for cap purposes even if the player is only signed for 2 or 3 more, then you get that big dead hit after their final year or extend again and recapitalize it again.

Am I wrong that challenging for 12 extra yards on a kickoff isn't worth it even if you're 100% sure it's getting overturned?

That sequence was insanely improbable. First, the defensive hold was obvious. 2nd, Rodgers doesn’t throw picks. 3rd, how is the defense not putting everyone back to cover the Hail Mary?

Offensive player lowest his head at the same time time tackler lowers his. Penalty on the defensive player. Got it.

They've made it clear that you can't lead with your head. Everyone knows this by now

When both players do it, there shouldn’t be a penalty.
