I completely believe Len when he says the Cubs wanted him to stay and made that clear. The questions I have are what led him to the decision that he needed to leave to begin with. It can't all just be about loving radio. It just can't.

regardless of what is said, i will always believe that the nastiness of the cubs organization was at least in part responsible for len leaving, and i will always respect the hell out of him for it

It won't be until Len is on what he assumes to be his final broadcasting job that he'll relent and admit working for the Ricketts made him physically ill.

And it only took him 9 years to come to that realization.

i wonder if len has read this thread

He needs to capstone his Cubs career by coming on and having an NSBB chat, if only to see how bitter and jaded we've gotten as a board.

none of us knew the depths of the ricketts depravity 9 years ago

To be honest, I have barely watched the cubs the last couple years because the on-field stuff is just such an unenjoyable experience. Even though Len and JD were so great together I really found myself absentmindedly listening to the radio broadcast most times. (call me crazy but i really like pat and ron)

I didn't plan on watching much this upcoming season anyway but this really sealed it. I think the biggest cause of sadness for me is just that len is so synonymous with all the fun cubs times of everything post-2003.

I'm sure it has been a slow but accelerating creep for him, just like it has been for all of us here, and accentuated by Marquee.

what if len is actually alt-right

I posted this earlier but I found record of him being a registered Democrat in Florida. That said, he was listed as inactive so I'm guessing this was back when he was the Marlins TV guy...Obviously the world has changed quite a bit over the last 16 years.

And yet it is exactly the same

Len, thank you for bringing sabermetrics into Cubs' broadcasts compared to the previous PBP guy who only spoke of two out RBIs.
