I will say if you told me 3 years ago that I'd be looking for the White Sox broadcast for Cubs/Sox games, I would have called you a liar.

Fun fact: Len was a Cubs broadcaster as long as Harry Caray was.
Is Chip available?

i'd prefer that over myers by a longshot, and that is saying a LOT

again, if len really wants to just nerd out and wanted to do radio without having to uproot his family and this was just a timing thing, so be it. if that's what he wants, he should do whatever makes him happy. i tend to, like others, suspect that all the nonsense going on with the Cubs had at least something to do with nudging him that way, but maybe it really is just the opportunity presenting himself. whatever.

My hottest in the moment take is that if Len wanted to do radio so badly then they should've put Pat(who has very much lost his fastball) out to pasture.

i don't disagree, but they'd never do that (and len would probably want nothing to do with forcing him out)

aren't you my anti-vin scully buddy too?

Vin Scully was doing the Brennamen meme for years unironically and people thought it was folksy because he was lucid in the 50s.

I'd prefer Thom Brennaman apologizing non stop on air interspersed with game play by play over Myers.

I mean, it’s not anyone on this board’s business who the Cubs employ, hire, or fire, but yes, Len disrupting his career trajectory (and likely income!) over sharing airtime or his employer’s dress code would be immature and childish.

The dude seems like a great guy and he can do whatever he want: I hope that he’s happy! But if that was the reason he probably wasn’t in it for the long haul anyway.

It's not any of the customer's business what product the company chooses to sell them?

What the horsefeathers kind of nonsensical corporate apologia is this nonsense?

That comment was related to the interpersonal relationship between on-air talent and their employer and personal reasons as to why/why not the talent stays or goes.

Of course the product is the customer’s business. To that end, you or anyone else could stop consuming said product and prove that the employer’s calculation in changing the product was incorrect. Currency can be exchanged for goods and services.

You said it's none of our business who they employ. It is very much our business who they employ. At least half of our discussion, probably way more, is specifically about who they choose to employ.

You made a really stupid comment, don't try and snark your way out of it.

Vin sucks forever but Pat is a legend (except for his awful 2016 WS final out cal)

I love Len and think he will have a much better broadcast than Marquee but the first time I hear him getting excited for a White Sox player doing something against the Cubs, I will die inside. I'll just stick with Pat and Ron

pat seems like a great guy and i like what i know of him as a person/personality. i have a few complaints about him as a PBP guy at this point, but it could be SO much worse.

that said, i don't like coomer at all (and i've heard him make some mildly snarky comments that make me think he might be a covid truther - or maybe he's just pissed that they want to close his bar - so that's cool) so overall i kinda dislike our radio broadcast. the back and forth between them is entertaining, though. i just don't think coomer provides much good insight and also sounds like a goofy country bumpkin.

Off topic, but is there a reason why you are writing everything in lowercase? Like other times, I feel like I might have missed something on the board.

I’m more interested in learning more about how little the Cubs will get your attention *this time*. You could spend tens and tens of hours reading and posting about them in 2022 but this could be the last straw as well!

is chris myers confirmed?

from what i understand, sharma reported him as being the favorite, but i think gordo reported that it will be him. there's been no official announcement yet, though.

To be fair, the White Sox roster is incredibly fun. That being said, Kasper trying to stay somewhat neutral on La Russa and everything he does will be pretty entertaining.

cubs twitter universally hates him as the pick (and not even necessarily because of politics), so maybe if that noise gets loud enough they'll listen and hire someone else? just kidding

not sure if you're mistaking me for Kyle or something.

I never said I'm quitting them cold turkey.

I had already cancelled my mlbtv subscription this past year. I'm not sure how much chatting about them on this website matters, but I've spent a lot more time on non-cubs threads.

I'm guessing that I'm not unique in that the Cubs have very little to do with why I spend time on this site at this point.

yeah. i dropped my season tickets a couple years ago. this feels like it's the only cubs related thread i've posted in more than 1 or 2 times since march. i never would've imagined i'd get to this level of apathy about this team within 4 years of 2016 and they're only pushing me away further.

I haven't listened to much Pat and Ron lately, although I might start this year. I get a kick out of them together. Pat's still very good and Ron is mostly unobjectionable now that he doesn't try to do play by play in the Pat piss break inning anymore. Really, my only major complaint with our radio broadcasts is the in-game ad reads are getting out of control.

Dan Bernstein’s Scully impression is grimly hilarious... “And now I’d like to say a few words about the Jews...”

Coomer has grown on me a bit over the years. He isn't going to give you much hard-hitting analysis, but "goofy country bumpkin" isn't always a bad thing to play off Pat. Of course if Pat retires in a few years and we end up with Zaidman/Coomer, then we have a huge problem.

Well, I'm going to treat this as a Len Kasper appreciation thread from here on out, so here are some of his great ones with the Cubs:

It's probably not political, but replacing Len (a registered Democrat) with Chris Myers (a registered [expletive]) has to be seen as a win for Sinclair. Theo leaving too.

Whether or not its politically motivated, not really great moves to appease the fanbase in this heavily polarized time we live in.

Probably shouldn't even bring it up to make literally everything seem political, but since those twitter likes were floating around, I couldn't help but make the connection.

If Len decided to leave the Cubs because he didn’t want to occasionally share the broadcast booth with a third person or because he didn’t want to wear a suit then he’s a child. I sincerely hope that’s not the reason.

I can't believe people think the suit thing matters

Was considering getting some kind of package to watch the Cubs next season. Forget that. Maybe I'll get really into League of Legends or some non sense.

I keep trying to watch videos explaining what's happening in LoL matches and I never understand what's happening.

There was a week-long span where I could get a general sense of wtf was going on. Now all I can remember is "Jungler."
