I was laughing about how people were saying the Cubs of the last few years don’t know how to put divisions away but here we are again, instead of putting away the division they are giving the Cardinals pole position

I guess big picture just get in the top 8, as the first round is a best of 3 crapshoot. This team isn't going far anyway

2016 and 2017 they put it away, 2018 they failed but still won 95 games and last year were just bad and never even had a chance. Weird narrative but there’s also a recency and frustration bias. Also willing to see how a 2 run game in the 4th with Wrigley playing like coors plays out before declaring this a loss and the division given away.

And I guess with the current set up just finish top 2 and maybe we catch a heater with Yu/Hendricks and 2-3 of the bats. And really other than the Dodgers everyone else in the NL seems pretty even.

2016 is the last year that Lester had an above average fastball by velocity. That year he threw hard pitches (4 seam, sinker, cutter) 82% of the time. This year, down more than 3 MPH from that heyday, he's still throwing "hard" stuff 74% of the time. To be fair he has substantially cut down on his 4 seamers, but IMO he really needs to embrace his offspeed stuff if he's going to have any chance at being a decent starter going forward.
