Still seems like this last offer pretty much closed the gap. They’re basically down to adding 4-10 more games.

Yep, probably naive to be optimistic at this point, but proposing 60 games just seems like a 'come meet us in the middle and wrap this up' move. 60 games in 70 days is, I think, more days off than they would normally get, so pretty easy to fit in 66 games, as mentioned above.

Sorry if this was mentioned before, but are they protesting mlb.tv subscriptions? Didn’t we get charged full price back in February?

Oh, I've found mlb.tv to be completely reasonable when it comes to subscription issues.

Did I say reasonable? I mean horrible. Totally horsefeathering horrible.

I e-mailed them a few weeks ago for a refund and received a response within minutes and the refund a few days later.

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. I’ve had 2 billing issues, once they double charged me to the same card and once they double charged, charging two separate cards for a full season of MLBTV that were both linked to the account and both times I was able to call and get a real person and got a refund within a few days. Both instances happened probably between 2010-2016.

I don't want a full refund, I just don't want to pay for a full season when we're getting half a season

I'm in the same boat. I haven't contacted them, since I still want the subscription, but I'm hoping they are just going to automatically issue pro-rated refunds once an agreement is in place.

Since they've own MLBAM and have already pinned down the players on salaries a great deal, it would be the easiest and most obvious thing in the world to buy goodwill by making MLB.tv free, though they would need to keep blackout restrictions since they can't upset the TV gravy train. Considering the owners steadfast objection to doing the easiest and most obvious thing in most situations, I'm not optimistic.

I didn't want a full refund either. I intend to sign up again once a new lowered 2020 price is announced and we know what exactly we're getting this year. No sense giving them an interest-free loan, though.

Len was on the score this morning and said the DH is here for good and wouldn't rule out 16 team playoffs being permanent beyond 2021. Also expansion to 32 teams, with Portland and Montreal

I don't like where any of this is going. I am resigned to the fact that the DH is coming, even though I still don't like it. But a permanent 16 team playoff is horrible.

Agreed on all counts. A 162-game season doesn't remotely require a playoff with half the teams in it, especially in the sport already least likely to produce a representative champion.

The only way I’d like a 16 team playoff would be if they reduced the regular season to ~140 games. I’d still prefer they’d just leave it as is though, other than maybe make the DS best of 7 and maybe shave ~5 games off the regular season.

I’m all for the DH though and would prefer relocation to expansion but expansion makes owners more money so they’re gonna do that.

But if they shorten the season, will they put an asterisk next to single-season counting records like home runs?

I guess? Also could be a way to rebrand/remarket a bit. Could start a whole new leaderboard on the ~140 game season and would have new record chases every year for awhile and maybe that drives some extra interest and views.

It’s not going to happen though because that’s a lot of games to cut and there will be less TV revenue (even though some is made up with more playoffs). I think 162+16 game playoff is too much and also makes the 162 not all that meaningful and you’ll get less people watching if half the teams get in the playoffs anyways. Shortening to 130-140 makes sense if they’re gonna go that route, imo.
