Doc has been awesome but I could nit pick something it’s that it’s pretty much a Jordan documentary. Yes I know MJ is the alpha of alphas and his story is compelling and I don’t want to spend any significant time seeing Jud Buechler or Rusty LaRue behind the scenes. I would just like to hear more of this from Pippen’s perspective or Toni’s or any of the other main rotation guys. But again just a little nit picking.

The documentary is not at all what I expected. Obviously it was going to be largely focused on Jordan, but I thought it was going to show a lot more of the last run. It has been awesome nonetheless, but I feel like all the talk of unprecedented access and video footage from the last season was overselling that part of the show. It has been the Jordan story, with some 97-98 clips sprinkled in. There is nothing at all wrong with that though.

I'm a tad surprised at anyone expecting this not to be hinged on Jordan...like, how else would you have gotten him to participate? And also that anyone thought 10 horsefeathering hours were going to dedicated to a single season.

Nobody should have thought this was some kind of high bar for history or journalism going in, so calm the horsefeathers down and quit being such a nerd, Ken Burns.

They’ve gone into each of the championship runs, so we still have 95-96 and 96-97 to see. The two major non-basketball subjects are Jordan playing baseball (and his return) and Jordan’s dad being murdered.

There’s a lot to get through in four episodes.

I'd presume we'll get something of a summer 98/final fall out as well.

4 episodes left.

Best guess at layout.

7- James Jordan / 1st and 2nd round playoffs

8 - Baseball and return / Pacers series

9 - 96 title / Jazz series

10 - 97 title (flu game!) / Jazz series wrap up and final breakup

These are the official blurbs about the remaining episodes

Episode 7

As Michael Jordan pushes his teammates hard for a sixth NBA title, his intensity and hunger for basketball dominance is in stark contrast to his mindset in October 1993, when he stunned the world by walking away from the game.

Episode 8

Michael Jordan would famously use even the smallest slight imaginable to motivate himself against an opponent. And when his NBA comeback in 1995 fell short in the playoffs, he worked harder than ever to return to form.

Episode 9

In May of 1998, nearly a year after Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls fought past Utah in the NBA Finals, their path to a sixth title only gets more challenging, as a brutal seven-game series against the Indiana Pacers decides the Eastern Conference.

Episode 10

In June of 1998, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls face the Utah Jazz in an NBA Finals rematch, looking for a sixth championship and a perfect ending for "The Last Dance."

As I was a toddler I wasn't following/don't remember watching the Bulls/Pistons late 80's early 90's run. I can't imagine how incredible that '91 ECF must have been to experience.

I remember savoring the sweep of Miami in 07 the year after they beat the Bulls in the playoffs. 91 vs Detroit must have been that times, I don't know, 200?

I was 12 when this was all going on in 1991, and that series was everything anyone ever talked about at school while it was happening. The closest feeling I could liken that to was the 2016 NLCS game 6 at Wrigley, where the Bulls jumped on the Pistons early and never let up, except for 4 games instead of 1. It was a week long party.

I don't think they interviewed Craig Hodges for this doc and that's a damn shame. I never knew he was blackballed out of the league until much later.

Wow, never know that background on Hodges. Thanks for posting.

Yeah that was a really cool article. I remember him as a player but never knew his story like that.

they didn't spend enough time on the knicks series. they literally didn't even mention that they had played a 7 game series against each other the prior year.

in general i also wish they would show more actual basketball stuff, especially since we know the non-basketball stuff will be watered down.

"When you see the episodes next week, you’ll be surprised. Maybe he (Jordan) skipped Episode 7, but I can’t believe that he didn’t (trailed off)...

"The Steve Kerr thing is only a story that's told, and he was eager to tell that, and Steve was, too. But this treasure trove of footage that we had from the NBA, what we tackle in Episodes 7 and 8 next week is what it was like to play with Michael, and then what it was like to play against him, in 7 and 8, respectively.

"And the with Michael stuff, man, I don’t know if you would want to practice with Michael Jordan. It would be fun to watch; I don’t know if it would be fun to interact with him during that because he is hard. He wanted to make those harder than any game could possibly be. And in the East back in the '90s, that meant making it as rough and as mentally grueling as possible.

"And there’s things in there, there’s language in there that I’m shocked ESPN let us keep in, and there’s behavior in there that I’m shocked Michael let us keep in."

In 92-93, I had just moved from Germany to an Air Force Base just outside of Phoenix, which no longer exists, but was testing the B2 bomber while I lived there, which was kinda cool. I had talked an insane amount of trash with my friends and my teacher, who was an excellent teacher at a really, really bad school...the name of the school had "Accomodation" in it, so expectations were not high. Game 5 of those finals really had me nervous. I hadn't seen footage of it since I watched the games live. Its weird how stuff like that can make long forgotten memories come flooding back.

I wonder how in-depth they're going to get on the James Jordan murder. There are a lot of bizarre details that raise questions.

He was driving from Wilmington to Charlotte at around midnight and... pulled over to the side of the road to take a nap?

He was allegedly shot in his car when he woke up but there wasn't clear evidence of blood in the car.

His family didn't report him missing for 21 days. His birthday took place during this span.

His body was found in a swamp tens of miles away from where he was allegedly killed. His body wasn't immediately identifiable so he was cremated as a John Doe and identified using dental records later.

The second call made from his car phone was to the son of the sheriff's deputy, who was also a drug trafficker and a friend of the investigator.

My guess is that they are going to gloss over it, but a documentary could be made just about the murder itself. Even the 30 for 30 on Jordan's retirement was more about the retirement than this case.

My guess is they'll mention it, talk about how it affected Jordan, but not go into much detail (which would sidetrack the documentary anyways). How it affected the team is the most appropriate angle on that story

I had not heard this before. This is for real? That's nuts.

A total of 21 days passed before family members reported Jordan missing. His 57th birthday came and went on July 31, nine days after he had last been seen alive. On the 22nd day, his body was identified with dental records.

I think their side of the story was that this wasn’t unusual for him. He liked to just disappear at times for whatever reason. Something like that.
