You’d think with a meaningless game and nothing to lose you wouldn’t drag out the same boring conservative offense but here we are.

A team that went into the year mentioned among the Superbowl favorites is now struggling to handle Minnesota's reserves. I can't even take solace in them getting a better draft pick.

Bears have 2nd and 1 near midfield, rush 3 straight times and don’t get the 1st, including a QB sneak on 4th and inches. Blocking sucks but Mitch looked like he had never executed a sneak before. He just kind of pushed himself into the crowd, turned his back to the line and held on hoping he got the inch. He didn’t.

Extend your arms, Mitch. What was he doing?

Looks like picks 43 and 50 for the Bears. Roughly pick 19 on the trade value chart.

Funny because that’s the 1st round pick the Bears would have had if they weren’t giving it to the Raiders.

Also, not sure that the results yesterday affected this, but 2020 opponents officially set:

This schedule seems just about as tough as 2019. Houston about as tough as KC. The rest of the AFC South a bit better than the West. Still have NO and trade the NFC East for the South. Again, a bit better. Rams and Giants repeat. Odd that the 3 conference repeats are also the same H/A.

No. The teams have been set since the Giants/Redskins game a couple weeks ago. The Bears would have gone from playing Tampa to Atlanta, but they already play the entire NFC South.

Interesting the Bears may only have 1 cold weather away game, and depending when the game at Green Bay is scheduled, that may not even be a factor.

I know that the most practical and logical approach to next year is to roll Trubisky out there and again and just hope it gets better, but horsefeathers, I don't want to see him anymore.

Nor do I, I know many have said we'll probably have to grin and bare it for 2020 but, there's got to be better options. However, consider this, Pace has fucked up the QB position twice (Glennon signing and Mitch), I believe there's enough evidence to suggest he does not know how to find or what is a good QB. Do we really want him trying his hand at QB again?

Glennon was a space filler, not an attempt to solve the QB position.

I would like to have Pace work with Nagy, and hopefully an experienced NFL OC to pick the next one. Pace was effectively on his own last time with no help from the coaching staff. And he wasn’t a college scout, he came out of the pro scouting side.

Who knows if its believable but...

Alex Smith makes quite a bit of money and given the injury he's coming off of, I wouldnt be comfortable giving him more than a backup role. If this is actually a true rumor maybe they think Alex Smith can help develop Mitch into the next Alex Smith given the comparisons coming out of college and the late bloomer status that many use as the last shred of hope that Mitch can be an acceptable starting QB.

Zimmerman also says "if he's able to play" is an extreme long shot.

Smith would come with a $16m cap hit for us for 2020. Assuming the standard cuts that most people are assuming (Long, Floyd, Prince, Gabriel, Shaheen), then you've got $31.6m to cover everything else, which includes four defensive starters (S, CB, OLB, ILB), a TE, trying to fix the OL debacle, a bunch of defensive depth and signing your draft picks (some of whom will fill some of those holes, to be fair).

Which, I mean, QB is important and Mitch is awful, so if that's the way you wanna go, sure. But understand how much strain the rest of the roster is under and you just took 1/3rd of the available cap space. You're not just running back the 2018 Bears with a better QB.

Alex Smith walks no better than Ryan Shazier. He's not playing next year. Even if he was.....MEH AF.
