I thought Smith was smart? If so, he’ll horsefeathering retire

That would be dumb. Rehabbing for 3 years to earn that money is smart.

I thought he was rehabbing so he could walk again

All that money will help towards a lifetime of surgeries and/or pain pills and/or bionic legs

Sounds like this has been an awful press conference

Eh, it's been boilerplate press conference nonsense. People calling it awful are probably the ones who burn jerseys and post it to social media.

Yup. Not really understanding why people are expecting Pace to start dragging players he's asked about. There's nothing the Bears would gain from that.

You want to know how they feel about Adam Shaheen? Consider the fact that, while healthy, he couldn't find his way on the field despite our dumpster fire of a TE situation in an offense that uses the position heavily.

And, FWIW, PFF liked Floyd's 2019, despite the lack of sacks. I don't think talking up his positives (he's far from a terrible player, first round status aside) is some crazy offense.

They are also pleased with Leonard Floyd, who got 1 sack over the last 15 games of the season.

There’s no way they bring him back at $13M+.

graded him at 69.8, but what is average, good, great on their scale?

i think it's basically "not bad" bordering on "pretty good"

Yep yep yep. Pace is a milqutoaste speaker but he said what he had to say. The press conference wasn’t going to be anything unless they pulled a Nagy firing out of nowhere. They have to see which backup QB is most available slash cheapest. You have to sign offensive line competition, draft some more. Bring in a new offensive coach or three. It’s not going to be an exciting offseason. But there will he churn.

I hesitate to post this because I know this is a giant meatball take and that these press conferences are ultimately meaningless. But it's bizarre to see them effusive with their praise about things that were objectively terrible. There is a middle ground between trashing players publicly and saying stuff like "This season gives me even more confidence in Matt Nagy as a play caller and coach" and "I really appreciate Nagy's development of Mitch. He's done a great job." Mitch was one of the worst QB's in the NFL and their offense was bottom 3 in the NFL? I guess the explanation is they are just lying about all this stuff. That's...great I guess?

the nagy stuff seems like standard vote of confidence (not the type right before a firing) to a coach who is absolutely not going to be fired but is coming off a disappointing year after a really good one.

Heistand is a bit surprising just because his reputation was so good. But its hard to see the OL play and not say there was an issue. Interesting that the one tweet says Helfrich and Heistand were "in charge of running". Wonder if theyll look at OL coaches brought in as OC/Run game coordinator and either amp up Childress' role or bring in another type of special coaching assistant.

No news on Ragone? Also, I'm not sure the WR should be back based on some of the issues the WR, but I guess Nagy won't fire his whole offensive staff.

Ragone must be really good friends with Pace or Mitch, because he survived Fox's firing and now the OC's. Furrey (WR coach) is pretty well regarded. Got no issues with him staying.

Nowhere to hide for Nagy in 2020.

He can hide behind Trubisky. I don't care if they fire him, but if they don't want to, then saying he gets another QB's worth of chance isn't unreasonable.

Yes it is. Granted, Mitch wasn’t Nagys draft pick, Nagy was still well aware of the task he had coming in. If he’s failed at it, why give him another one to fail at?

If not Shurmur, hitting up the old Carolina offensive coaching staff might not be a bad idea, if Rivera doesn't bring them over to WAS.

Obviously having McCaffrey helps, but theyve been pretty good running the ball the past several years and have a lot of NFL experience on that staff.

The tough thing about getting a highly regarded OC is that it doesnt seem like Nagy is going to relinquish playcalling duties, based on what was said in the press conference today. That has to knock the desirability of the job down a peg.
