Cubs outfielder Albert Almora will earn $1.575MM this year, Robert Murray reports on Twitter.

Low hanging fruit but $1.5749 million too much IMO. Yes I'm suggesting that he be paid $100 for his services this year.

He should have to pay the Cubs to play

And you know that the Ricketts are down for pay to play.

I’m pretty sure that’s how Donn Roach got a start that one time

These little league registration fees are getting out of control.

Ricketts just went from 6 to midnight.

3:07pm: The Cubs will pay Javier Baez an even $10MM, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com (via Twitter). That’s $700K north of his projected earning point.

3:00pm: Several other key Cubs players also have deals, per ESPNChicago.com’s Jesse Rogers (Twitter links). Catcher Willson Contreras receives a $4.5MM salary, right on the MLBTR projection. Outfielder Kyle Schwarber will play for $7.01MM, south of the $8MM that the model predicted.

So that means we're currently, what, 800K below the projections?

YESSSSS

This is almost excited as WS game 7!

After all of this, payroll for 2020 looks to be just under 210. Maybe climbing another million or two depending on how those split contracts work out and if the team is generous to pre-arb guys like Happ. The LT line is $208M for this year.

For 2021, I'm showing just under $200M if they keep Lester ($185M if they don't). That's a fuzzier number though as arb estimates a year out are obviously going to be inexact.

The other important thing to keep in mind if you're treating a particular LT number as a hard line, is that the public is dealing with some fairly soft estimates in places. Stuff like the exact amount of the benefits that count towards the LT, and how all the partial year salaries count for players who spend small amounts of time in MLB can be guesstimated in the aggregate, but if you're worried whether your team is 400k under or 800k under, that is largely unknowable in January.

I’m 100% buying in to this, I don’t care

It’s a tiny morsel of excitement, let’s hold onto it and never let go even though it makes absolutely no sense given the info we’ve heard all winter.

Feels a bit like going over the plan for Ocean’s Eleven.

Ross: “Say we trade for Arenado, and manage to get them to take Heyward. And in that deal or another we trade away Quintana and Chatwood”

Jed: “without taking on salary or trading away MLB pieces”

Theo: “oh sorry, forgot to mention that”

Ross: “yeah, say we do all that. We’re just supposed to win the division with Mills, Cotton, and Rea starting half the games?”

Theo: “......yeah”

Stating the obvious but these rumors are just so incredibly bizarre after everything that has (or I guess hasn't) happened lately. And somehow we're going to shed Heyward's contract in this process? I don't get it.

Unless Ricketts is ok going over the tax only if it includes Arenado, which lol, that's not the case.
