3 of the 5 longest pennant droughts now belong to NL Central teams. Pittsburgh (2nd longest - 1979), Milwaukee (3rd longest - 1982), Cincinnati (5th longest - 1990)

I'm curious whether the Nationals will tear up Dave Martinez' contract and give him a new deal, or are the Nats gonna Nat and continue to pay him less than $1M the year after going to the World Series.

Dave Martinez would become my favorite human being of all time if he did Schildt's speech after this game

Dave Martinez seems too nice a guy to do that (or appears too nice to do that).

I agree it'd be horsefeathering awesome if he did give that speech lol.

For Schildt:

"If you guys want to step into the box against one of those guys, you're more than welcome," Wong said.

“We’ve been battling all year, man,” Wong said. “Everybody was always counting us out, and we’ve been battling all year. I guess now the haters can agree with us that we weren’t the best team right now. Those guys did what they needed to do, and hats off to them.”

Yes, Kolten. The haters were right. Good luck repeating this charade next season, bitch!

Just a pleasant sense of relief that at least one half of the nightmare World Series was averted. Washington is pretty fun, too, so that's nice for their fan base.

So people who didn't think the Cardinals would win the division are "haters"? That seems a little harsh considering the fact that many Cardinal fans would have to be included in that broad statement.

Coupled with Mike Schildt's assertion that the Braves "started some " just by showing up for their scheduled playoff series and that any team that dares to take the field against them is with them, the current Cardinal culture seems a bit pansyish.

I can't wait for STL to finish 2nd in bidding for Cole, Strasburg, and Rendon.

Again, I wonder how Bryce feels about the Nats advancing to the WS?

It has to sting on some level right? If the Nats win it all I think he'll be pretty upset.

I know, I know... he can go all Scrooge McDuck and do this:

I mean, they offered him a pretty horsefeathers deal, and it's not like he went to some bum ass team with no chance of doing anything.

Still, to do it the first year he's gone; that's got to cross his mind a time or two during the morning comb through.

Maybe it's time to rename the "Ewing Effect" the "Harper Effect".

A reminder that the Yankees basically got Aaron Hicks, a switch hitting CF with a well rounded game, for free. He did suck at the time tbf but I wanted him. I award me +.000000000000000000000001 credibility and also booooo Theo for the lack of risks taken and urgency after 2016 at the ML level

Hicks would be an interesting trade target. He’s owed a decent amount so I don’t think he’d cost a lot. There’s a lot of a Fowler type player in him.
