Feel bad for the A’s. Looking to go 0-3 in the Wild Card game I believe

Seriously though it’s crazy to me. They’ve won 97 games in each of the last 2 seasons and they have 2 playoff games to show from it. The longer this goes on the less I like the Wild Card game concept

They’ve won 90+ games 4 of the last 8 years and 88+ in 5 of them and have no playoff series wins to show for them.

They wouldn’t have even been in the playoffs last year if not for the wild card game. Just kinda sucks for them being in a division with Houston.

Yeah my beef is the fact that it’s 1 game not that there should be less playoff teams. It doesn’t even feel like the Cubs were actually in the playoffs last year. I can’t imagine how it feels for fans of teams that don’t have the recent postseason success the Cubs had before that loss.

I don’t have the right solution either. A 3 game series would be great but that certainly hurts the team that advances more than a 1 gamer. Definitely don’t want to go to 8 playoff teams a league.

That’s why teams should try to win their division.

A 3 game wild card round would not be “great”

Agreed, one game playoff is fine. The regular season is a crime against humanity. Anytime you have teams playing 21 games in 20 days in August, play suffers. I'm all for 32 teams with 16 teams in a League, eliminating divisions, playing 144 games, condensing IL games to 6 games per year, with an offday every 6 days.

I like it just fine how it is now. Don't want to play a 1 game playoff? Win your horsefeathering division. Prior to 2012 the 1 WC team was on almost equal footing as the other 3 division winners.

Pretty entertaining video from Jordan and Jake from the NL wildcard game. The energy in the park after Juan Soto's clutch hit reminded me of the Cubs-Cards series back in 2015. Good stuff.

I like the one game way more than I thought I would. However, I wish there was a way for a wild card to be able to earn a LDS spot in place of a division winner. Say, the first wild card has to finish at least 10 games ahead of the worst division winner. That way when two teams finish with 100 wins in a tough division and another team wins their division with 85 wins they swap spots.

In general I just hate small divisions and would rather there only be two divisions in each league. In that scenario two division champs and the best wild card all get to play in the LDS and wild cards 2 and 3 play the death match game.

the one game "win or go home" wild card format is horsefeathering awesome and anyone who says otherwise is crazy. yes, it sucks when the cubs lose like last season but i love it.

Meh, I am obviously in the minority here. It doesn’t even feel like the playoffs to the teams that lose. But hey if everyone else likes it, great

Hate to see the galaxy brain move of using Flaherty vs Holland immediately backfire in the first inning of the DS

He was on normal rest on Sunday, he’ll be on normal rest tomorrow and he’ll be on normal rest if he has to pitch in a Game 5. It literally changes nothing for them.

Plus it kept him on his normal routine and meant he didn’t have 9 days (or whatever it would be) between starts.

Using your best pitcher to try assure you get more than a game 163 or WC play in game is "galaxy brain?"

I thought rest between Game 2 and Game 5 in the DS was short rest always?

And now they are going to win and have Flaherty lined up for game 2. So predictable. I have no idea why some franchises just can’t do horsefeathers in the playoffs. Like the Braves could field the NL All Star team and they probably lose this series

For quite a few years now the format has been

Game 1

Game 2

Off Day

Game 3

Game 4

Off Day

Game 5

Years ago there was no off day between games 4 and 5.

Yes. Especially vs Derek Holland and because the other team needed to win to tie you. Hey it looks like a bad decision worked out but it doesn’t make it less dumb. It also saved your best pitcher for a true elimination game if needed (163 or WC).
