It was so refreshing to see the offense battle like that only to have the defense and pen blow it. Would’ve been a huge win, gonna miss out on the WC completely you horsefeathering losers if this horsefeathers continues. Edited by Cubswin11

Just ducking infuriating. How is Cishek trusted more than some of the other options. Against that part of the lineup you need guys to throw strikes.

Even if he’s trusted he shouldn’t have that leash. Wieck, Underwood, Norwood, Mills, and Hultzen were all available. Pedro and Holland too but they suck too much to be used there.

Maddon has got to go. I'm there, he's just bad.

Defense is a shadow of 2016. Bullpen can't hold a lead. Been losing games like this all year, ready for some changes.

When Joe was talking to CB, they had a quick shot of Cishek yelling “Joe” in an almost ‘what are you doing...get me out of here’ expression.

Perhaps I’m just projecting what we all felt.

I have no idea where to look these stats up if they’re even out there so please correct me if I’m wildly off base.

But Cishek seems like a guy who throws a lot of pitches out of the zone and is reliant on the weird arm angle confusing hitters so they swing more. It seems like when he blows up, it’s because he either walks guys or falls behind and has to come into the zone. So if hitters are patient, they’ll benefit, but it’s hard because the weird arm angle, release point and trajectory of the ball confuse hitters.

If there are stats that either back this up or show I’m totally talking out of my ass, please post either way.

I’m sure you can find his slash line against in various counts. That would seem to prove or disprove this theory (which seems right and is probably right in general for pitchers but maybe affects him more since he doesn’t have pure swing and miss stuff/velo for when he has to come in the zone).

I understand people getting pissed at me for declaring game over in the 2nd inning but this team just doesn’t come from behind this season, especially on the road. Even all the exciting moments they’ve had have come from walkoffs in a low scoring tie game or the occasional back and forth affair. There’s no comeback magic like Cubs teams of the past.

Even more annoying than the actual loss is this dumpster fire if a post. The Cubs CAME BACK ON THE ROAD. But they also lost, so Schwarber Fan can pat himself on the back

I was disappointed to find out that the Cubs probably don't have a shot at the most walk off losses in a season. They have 10 this year, the record is 16. With only 8 road games to go its going to be tough but I'm sure they are capable of it!

Nope, I’ll take the win and eat crow every time over back-patting. But its obvious that this team doesn’t have that “we never quit” spirit. Most of the time when they get down, they don’t come back. And in a close game late, especially on the road, it’s like everyone is waiting for the shoe to drop. You just get the impression the players feel the same way.

Except you posted this during a game where they did, indeed, fight their way back on the road

Please back this up with a single piece of actual evidence. If not, at least admit that this is just a pure meatball take.

Someone get this new game thread up ASAP so I can scream about Joe Maddon, professional MLB manager getting paid millions of dollars a year, doing the thing I did in video games when a player got hurt/needed a day off and I was too lazy to switch the rest of the line up around. What the horsefeathers are we doing here?

I can’t find a site that shows records “when trailing after __” but we have to have an abysmal record when trailing after 5,6,7 innings in comparison to previous years (yes, I know most means will have a bad record when trailing in the late innings). I could be wrong, but it seems impossible that we have more than 2 or 3 wins when we fall behind in games even through 4 or 5 innings.

You don’t think Tony Kemp should take the most ABs tonight?

forgotmyoldlogin said he was going to have a thread up, but he's a no-show.

cl smooth and squally are on deck after him.

Then it's back to me. If none of them puts one up in the next half hour, I'll get it going.

I'll regret enabling you but...

A .132 winning percentage when trailing after 5. The NL is .187. The Cardinals are .259. 2018 Cubs were .250.
