Bote sucks at 3B, Marte, Bell and Moran are all worse vs lefties. Joe horsefeathers his pants that inning, my god.
I get that those hitters have their weak sides but Kintzler has been absolute nails against LHB so I think the move was fine. He just couldnt come close enough to the plate to elicit a swing once he got 2 strikes.

Nope, still dumb.

If Kintzler is nails against lefties, just bring him in to start the inning. He used the splits to bring Ryan in (to face a lefty and then to make Reynolds bad righty since his OPS is 200+ points better as a lefty) but then ignores them for the next three hitters. It’s dumb and there’s no good reason for it.

It's like when I finally beat Tyson. I lost that hunger to beat him again.

I was pretty obsessive about that game. When I saw this video, I got a little depressed at how much better than me some of these guys are...and then I saw that it wasn't until the late 90s that someone was able to TKO Tyson/Mr. Dream in the first round. I was doing that before Sosa hit the roids! Then I felt a lot better.

It definitely seems like the majority of the blown saves have come from Joe getting cute with matchups in the 8th/9th innings. There are only a precious few relievers in the league that can perform well in dirty innings. If Maddon somehow survives this season, he might be saved by the impending three batter minimum.

It wasn't the case today but you can chalk a couple up to taking the starter out too early.

Theo definitely has plenty of blame for the construction, but yeah Joe has often played the cards poorly that he’s been dealt. He’s made it harder to win and harder for guys to succeed with the roles, situations and decisions he’s chosen on using pen guys. Sure blow ups will happen and guys are gonna falter, especially because we don’t have a great pen but he’s also not optimizing usage quite often.

Pretty crazy to go from a 3.5 game lead to a 1 game deficit over an 8 game span

The Cardinals are going to hit a hard part of the schedule. Not that we are any good but they are going to have a rough stretch.

We'll be back in first by 3-5 games by next Sunday most likely

That’s still sub optimal. The hitters are worse vs lefties than righties and Ryan is neutral. Kintzler also doesn’t “get swings.” And we put in a worse defender at 3B for no reason when we brought in contact/GB guys. This whole thing is on Joe tonight. Kintzler was fresh off the IL for this and was brought in to a mess, Joe horsefeathers it up.

Oh I'm totally on the same page with regards to Bote but I won't be convinced on Kintzler. I'll just leave it at that, no need to continue.

“We got to keep going. I don’t know what else to say.”

They are basically yelling for Rocky to throw in the towel.

He’s just waiting for free agency and a big payday elsewhere. The owners didn’t sign his friend Harper and I still think he’s ticked about that.

I've never come close to disliking a theoretical playoff team more in my life

2004 is still the all time worst for me. They had a chance at a wild card until the final weekend but I just hated all of them so much.

I also think that it was that they didn’t even try. As a fan it was frustrating but I can’t even imagine how maddening it must have been to be a star on this team, hear the President of your organization discuss how the offense just broke, and then two weeks later cry poor as two young offensive superstars (including his friend Harper) sit on the market without a [realistic] offer from your club.

Players don't give a horsefeathers about this as much as fans. Show him the most money and he will sign.

I'm sure he's far more pissed they dicked with his service time and cost him a year of free agency.

Oh I don’t think it’ll affect signing him. Even without the Boras factor, he’ll take the best offer for him and his family. I was referring to just being frustrated in season about a lack of support for the team prior to this season.
