Sandberg had 6 seasons with an OPS+ higher than 130, a number Javy has yet to break once.

It's recency bias, but I'm going with Javy just because he's so much dang fun.

Oh, and I've got my fingers crossed that Javy still hasn't reached his prime.

Ryno’s prime was full of 6-8 WAR seasons (and a couple of relatively disappointing ones). Javy hasn’t touched that yet but Javy is insanely fun to watch and recency bias is in effect so Javy

Edit: basically repeated OMC’s answer

Assuming you are basing this on more than just numbers (which I assume you are) I'm not sure I can fairly weigh in on this and I'm 37. Ryno's best year was when I was 10 and I was a bit too young to really appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the hell out of him (though Dawson was always my favorite) but I just loved any Cubs player that I believed to be good (which is why I also liked Dunston).

Ryno for sure, no doubt. 9 GG’s, MVP - the total package.

Would love to see Javy pass him up in all metrics. Will have to wait and see.

I didn’t start following the Cubs until post-prime Sandberg, so Javy all the way. Edited by Derwood

Hawk and then Dunston were my favorites as a kid. I’m going Javy. Ryno was as vanilla as it gets. Javy is Baskin Robbins.

Sandberg can keep his 3 extra WAR or whatever, it comes attached to a sanctimonious douchenozzle, clubhouse cancer who jaked balls (hey-o) to protect his error-less streaks. He was the Ricketts ownership personified as a player.

I love Javy and think Ryno is boring and annoying as horsefeathers but picking Javy is absolutely insane.

That's the insane part about Sandberg. He was such a vanilla baseball player and an absolute lunatic as a manager. When he managed the Smokies my wife and I went to a game and he got tossed in like the 2nd inning on a pitching change arguing ball and strikes. The Smokies pitcher was awful.
