I always irrationally liked Carl and had hopes he'd at least be a solid set up guy. Good luck.

Don't love selling low on him, but understand it

Man, next year's bullpen is going to look a lot different

Yeah, this is one of those moves where I am weirdly bummed about a middling player no longer being on the Cubs. Carl's always seemed like a Good Weird Dude.

6.57 ERA this year in 24 IP with the Padres

6.11 ERA in 17 IP with AAA El Paso this year

Last year his numbers looked a lot better in the majors and minors so hopefully its a mental thing and the Cubs can get him on track. The Cubs used to have a good track record of finding these guys and fixing them into something useful.

Why do you say that?

Carl wasn't always a good pitcher (but sometimes he was...really good even) but he seemed like a great person.

I will always remember taking my then 6 year old daughter to a game in the bleachers in 2017 (I know, great place for a 6 year old, they were free tix) and during the game we walked down to the area you can see the bullpen guys. I assumed it was a 1 way window but Justin Grimm actually waved at my daughter and made funny faces. Then when we turned and walked away, some clubhouse person came chasing after us with a baseball, telling me that Carl wanted my daughter to have this. I was so caught off guard I forgot to tell the girl to thank him.

This isn't necessarily the reason I think he's a good person, he probably does that 10 times a game, but obviously a positive personal recollection of mine. Really hated to see him struggle because I really wanted him to succeed.

Wieck seems to have intriguing stuff, lots of Ks and not a lot of walks. Good velo for a lefty and he’s like 6’9”. Seems like he might just need some tweaking. Edited by Cubswin11

LOL so basically the Cubs traded for Carl Edwards in the hopes they could get him on track?

Happened to my 3 year old nephew last year too, who was too young to even realize what was going on. Seems like a great guy.

12HR allowed in his 42 combined innings of work this year. Got to find a way to cut that down, but the K numbers are still good. Dude is massive. BR lists him at 6’9”.

Maybe they just traded for this monster for backup after seeing that Pirates/Reds brawl.

sucks to give up International Bonus Money along with Carl.

We traded some minor league outfielder I've never heard of for pool money...assuming that evens out.
