I'll go ahead and say 93 wins. I don't love the outfield and I don't love the bullpen, but I think both groups have enough options that they'll be quality units by Memorial Day.

The infield and the rotation will be huge strengths. In particular, the dueling KB and Yu revenge tours are gonna be full on baseball porn.

As much as I hate the Cubs (and everything, really), I have to believe they'll be around 90+ again. Now that I've said it, I fully expect a fire sale in August.

This is about 90% I think they're human toilets and karma will smite them, and 10% that I hope it's the most reverse-y reverse jinx of all time.

But mainly I think the pitching is going to be a horsefeathering nightmare.

I could see a scenario where things fall apart, the teams bullpen depth is exposed and the Cubs still 'dont have money' to fill holes at the deadline.

But I guess you can make various doomsday scenarios with pretty much every team. I say yes, at least 85 wins.

I’ll say somewhere between 88 (if the division really turns out to be a death march and everyone wins over 80 games, unlikely but who knows) and 95 (team or two in division underperforms and we have more things go right than wrong).

Vegas line of 89.5 sounds bad until you realize that every other NL Centeal team is even lower

Except the Dodgers. And Washington is the same as us.

haven't you heard? MLB approved radical reallignment to go into effect this season with all teams forecasted to finish above .500 in the same division as the cubs.

89.5 sounds bad?

For a team that has won 90+ for 5 straight seasons and spent a crap ton of money? Yes, it sounds bad

No one seems to have noticed this, but apparently I didn't read Derwood's post closely enough...

there are 5 teams in baseball with higher totals, and 4 of them are in an american league that is half filled with dumpster fire teams that will roll over for their opposition

Watching other teams improve while we stay stagnant isn’t putting us in a good position. That said a team that seemed to be iffy health wise and had some scheduling problems still tied for best NL record and if it means anything they seem more motivated. I could see a complete collapse or a very strong team. Tough to guage. I’m going with yes they’ll be under .500
