I know there are some degens out there. I've entered way too many milli makers entries and we aren't halfway through the week yet.

Ha me too

What a great look for the NFLPA when 2 of your player representatives are essentially siding with management during a contract dispute with the star running back

absolutely ridiculous

these guys have no chance in the next round of CBA talks

I'm trying to understand what Bell's logic is in not showing up for camp at this point. Maybe I'm not understanding how the NFL collective bargaining agreement works, but from everything I've read and understand about it, Bell has absolutely no leverage and no dog in this fight at this point. The date has passed to work out a long term deal. His only option is to sign the offer sheet and play or simply sit out the year.

I get that he's pissed at the organization for tagging him two years in a row and that they haven't given him a long term offer he would agree to. But, the time to be mad about that was before it started affecting actual games on the field. He's now getting his own teammates to turn on him. Be mad at the CBA. Be mad at Pittsburgh for tagging you a second year in a row without giving you a long term commitment. But now he's just pissing off the entire fanbase and his own teammates. Oh, and the yahoos who drafted him with their first pick in fantasy.

Or am I actually missing something. What is Bell and his agents current leverage? Production on the field?

He can sign as late as week 11. Less chance for injury and save wear and tear for entering UFA.

Yeah, play this season for 10 mil or whatever it is, or pack it in and wait for next season and play for 16 mil or whatever it is he thinks he can get in FA. I think a smart RB would realize the number of carries for which they can be productive in the NFL is very finite.

The NFL uses and abuses running backs. Teams figured out they can get 5-6 great years out of guys and throw them away. The only chance for RBs to make real money is to get their one longterm contract. Teams would rather take advantage of the ridiculous rookie pay scale, used up their RBs and pay the great ones one year at a time, then be forced into signing them to longterm deals with 2-4 years worth of "guaranteed money", which is what just about what everybody else gets (QBs get much more).

If he plays all year, Pit will give him 400 touches, abuse his body, and dare somebody else to sign him next year as a FA. If he holds out until late in the season, he'll forfeit game checks, but avoid all those touches and then take offers from around the league in the offseason.

And I get the anger over that. But he should be mad at the Players Association for making it easy for teams to do this. Sitting out in protest during the season jeopardizes a lot of current and future earnings, IMO.

That's kind of a stupid point. You can be mad at the NFLPA for putting you in a bad situation while also being mad at your team for treating you like garbage.

Obviously it's a risk, that's the point of negotiations. Pittsburgh has maybe one year of decent Ben left and are willing to play it without their star RB. That is also a risk. Yet barely anybody acknowledges how stupid they are behaving.

I had the #6 pick in my fantasy draft on Tuesday, Bell fell to me so I took him. Starting to regret that decision. One or two weeks is fine to sit but until week 10 horsefeathers

I still took him with pick #3 last night, and made a point to get Conner. I'd be stunned if he held out until week 10.

I had the #2 pick in one league a couple weeks ago, passed on him and took Saquon. Usually these holdout threats aren't very serious, but Bell is definitely committed to this.

franchise tag values:

Quarterback – $20.922 million

Running back – $9.63 million

Wide receiver – $13.924 million

Tight end – $8.428 million

Offensive line – $12.525 million

Defensive end – $14.2 million

Defensive tackle – $11.407 million

Linebacker – $12.81 million

Cornerback – $12.971 million

Safety – $9.536 million

Kicker/Punter – $4.493 million

he caught 85 passes which would also have put him in top 10 for WR; he & his agent probably feels the franchise cap number for RB doesn't nearly account for his total offensive production and they'd be right to think so

him adding another 400 touches this season at a relative pittance doesn't even help his value at all, regardless of his output

I think it will have the opposite effect on his future earnings. Teams will know that he essentially has 1 year less abuse on him and be more likely to include more guaranteed money.

Wouldn't he get 144% of the tag number? That would be roughly $13.5 Million

I already pointed that out that he should be mad at Pittsburgh in my previous post. Be mad at everyone. But not showing up to play is making his own teammates mad at him. What's the point of missing games?

As I said earlier, the point is to avoid putting mileage on the tires while playing at a pay rate below his worth. His teammates should shut up.

Yea, he couldn't control his teammates being mad. They are, but hes in a situation that very few other players could even begin to understand (good enough to be a 2 year franchise player and get your earnings possibly squeezed. Sure half the league has been through tough negotiations and got to time for camp/openers but this a unique situation. His teammates are idiots for publically questioning him.

I think if he comes back by week 10, it ends up being a 8-9M bet on his hand. He'll give up that this year and thinks he will make it up on the backend as a UFA (or at least reduce the risk involved).
