Should have taken him out after the first two reached.

Hamels still only threw 114 pitches. I can understand the concern if he was going well over 120, but 114 is a reasonable amount for 9 innings. While it wasn't completely necessary for him to pitch the 9th, I have no problem with it.

Yeah just not something you want to see with a 6 run lead and no off days coming up for awhile. I was concerned when it looked like he might have to go 120+ pitches but he got that DP so all in all 114 isn’t too bad. Just would have preferred that inning go to De La Rosa or Rosario

I mean, they’re definitely going to pick up his option, right?

Got to give it up to the front office. They were and continue to be aggressive in improving this team.

Giving up almost literally nothing to get Hamels, Chavez, and Murphy is one way to make up for that disaster of an offseason

Haha, fair. But at the time I really liked what they did in the offseason and am sure I’m not alone.

I, for one, was very unhappy.

I was okay to excited with most everything else.

I don't know how they couldn't at this point, but it is unfortunate that Texas is only on the hook for money if the Cubs take the buyout.

I wonder if it would be possible to have a handshake deal in place, decline the option, Texas pays the buyout, then resign him for a few years with a reasonable aav. Not even sure if that is legal.

I wonder what he'd get on the open market.
