It has been more than a week since Cubs closer Brandon Morrow threw from a mound for the only time since he last pitched in a game July 15. The right-hander played catch from 90 feet Monday and figures to have at least three more throwing sessions — with time off in between — before he gets on a mound again to air it out.

Morrow, who seemed upbeat after throwing without discomfort Monday, expects to prepare for his return next month by eventually throwing a simulated game or two.

"Well Brandon Morrow hasn't pitched since July 15th, but here he comes into the ninth inning of a tied Game 1 to face Christian Yelich with the bases loaded and nobody out. He said yesterday that he didn't feel quite comfortable, but he was willing to give it his best shot should the team need him."

Brandon Morrow (elbow) is hoping to return to the Cubs' bullpen by the end of next week.

Morrow had another successful bullpen session on Wednesday and should now advance to simulated work. He'll likely be eased in as a lower-leverage reliever, with Pedro Strop finishing the regular season as the Cubs' primary closer. Morrow has been out since mid-July due to a bone bruise in his right elbow.

We were so young and innocent then.

it has always sounded like he had the same thing as Yu, maybe a mixture of bad luck and incompetence but not a good look for the medical staff
