Joking here? What the heck would they do with yet another infielder who can’t play D?

I would assume that if the Brewers claimed him, they'd offer next to nothing in return and hope the Nats pull him back. The claim would be purely to prevent anyone else from being able to claim him.

i begrudgingly accepted jim edmonds and john lackey as cubs, daniel murphy might be too much for me.

Throw Chapman in that group too.

I more appreciated the feeling of certainty at the end of games rather than accepting Chapman himself. With the other two, I accepted them being on the team, but never really accepted them.

They are fine distinctions, but they allow me to live with myself more comfortably.

Someone refresh my memory because I am, of course drawing a blank: is there something annoying about Murphy besides him getting some really big hits against the Cubs? Because those other three dorks were and are varying levels of genuinely obnoxious turdbags.

He said he didn't agree with the gay "lifestyle."

But, somewhat promisingly, he's working on not being an horsefeathers or something?

He also handed me a ball for my then infant daughter at this game.

We still have it, but the dog gave it a couple chomps.

In addition to his homophobia, I just hate Murphy's mannerisms too -- that thing he does in celebration, the slow motion smacking of the hands together, then explode apart (I refuse to dig up a gif of this it bugs me so much). Petty of me? Yep.

Whatever, I'm going to instantly love this when he dongs and does it.

Someone claimed Hamilton. Hopefully the trade happens by tomorrow so we don’t have to face that gremlin and see him post a 1.000 OPS vs us this weekend

If Cubs claim a player and the original team doesn’t pull the player back, are the Cubs forced to take the player? Or can they “change their mind”?

Only if it’s irrevocable waivers the claiming team is forced to take. If it’s revocable both teams can decide not to do anything.

Is that new? It didn't used to be that way. Teams have gotten stuck with guys before.

Only if they claim a guy on irrevocable are they “stuck” with him. Revocable both sides can always decide not to do a deal, like the Brewers could’ve claimed Murphy to prevent him from getting to us and just said “no thanks, we won’t do a deal” and that’s that.

The Nats could have said “you’re taking him” and the Brewers would be on the hook for the $4 million he’s owed. Only the team that puts him on revocable waivers can pull him back. They claiming team can decide not to make a trade offer, but they can still be forced to accept the player/remaining contract.
