Some housekeeping:

Jaime Garcia added to the 40 man, Zagunis put on 60 day DL to make room.

The Angels claimed Luke Farrell off waivers. We DFA'd Mazzoni and Zastryszny but they cleared waivers and were kept in the organization.

Surprised no one wanted Mazzoni and that the Angels claimed Luke Farrell.

I'm NOT surprised Z cleared waivers lol.

Isn't Mazzoni hurt? He only had one outing between August 10th and the 28th. Not that a team wouldn't claim him but I think he has some sort of injury.

Yeah, you might be right. I mean I'd still claim him if I were an exec for some crappy rebuilding team as long as the injury isn't too serious.

If the injury were really serious the Cubs would just move him to the 60-day DL to clear up a spot like what they did with Zagunis.

Also, upgrading from Arcia and Villar or whoever was possible without moving guys all over the field. They could have traded for actual middle infielders. They also could have still added a starting pitcher.

Even if they got better, it is a strange and inefficient route to get there.

horsefeathers now they're going to lose the efficiency olympics too?

That's kinda what people judge at the deadline. It is pretty obvious they were going to be buyers and improve their team like nearly every contender did. I think they did the worst job at it this year.

Jonathan Villar was worth 1.3 WAR for the Orioles. Jonathan Schoop was worth -0.4 WAR for the Brewers. Is this you proving me wrong? Would you like me to start digging up posts from you during the 2016 NLCS?

my point all along has been that it is probably not safe to write the brewers off at every turn because they are a good team. they made a bunch of middling mid-season moves that accomplished nothing and guess what happened anyway?

They went on a ridiculously improbable run to win the division that their underlying talent wouldn’t have predicted?

exactly! I just can't figure out how that happened given our run differential and the fact that they traded for jonathan schoop! it's really not fair if you think about it, they should have awarded us the division based on what we presumed our team would be based on our midseason run differential.

The Brewers absolutely earned this, there is nothing unfair about it. This really has little to do with us and everything to do with the Brewers. We ended up about where we should’ve. A ~85 win team got really hot, congrats on being right and happy about that happening.

Again, congrats on being right about your 5% or so chance of happening call on the VBs. Buy some powerball tickets tonight.

duke and cubswin11 were never wrong about their outlook. the arguments stemmed from their unwillingness to remotely consider the possibility of the brewers finishing ahead of the cubs, then gloating about how wrong the haters were every time the cubs won like 3 in a row. yeah we can say the roster assembled by the brewers didn't deserve to win 95 games, but it doesn't really matter now. the division is over. for this season, we are owned.

Yup ultimately we were wrong and I’ll own it. Still hopefully get one more crack at them starting Thursday.

I will say it always felt like Cubs-Brewers in the DS was gonna happen since about late-August. Just thought we’d be on the other side of it being the home team/division winner.

If we win 4 more games I will still consider them right just like how the Cubs were the 2015 NL Central champs

it does sound super sexy to give them a taste and then beat them when it actually matters

i actually was saying this same thing to my (lone guy) co-worker that is a braves *fan* it would would be very "cubs-like" for this particular group to totally be trolling the hell out of everyone and lose the division and then sweep them in the NLDS after they celebrated on our field and we repay the favor. javy would just laugh and laugh and laugh and everyone would be talking about the cubs again and the brewers would be infinitely more jealous.

that could happen or the cubs could get killed tomorrow or by the brewers and oh well we won the WS a couple years ago and i'll still be hype af for opening day next year with this group (plus bryce) with a chip on their shoulder.
