"Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome and Trevor Hoffman were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, it was announced Wednesday."

Damn solid class

Sammy stays on at 7.8%, Kerry gets 2 votes, Zambrano 0.

Well, I'm pretty happy Kerry got 2 votes at least. One of my favorite Cubs' players of all-time. I wonder how great a career he could've had if injuries/D. Baker hadn't derailed it...

I was worried he might get 0 votes like Zambrano.

Trevor Hoffman should not be in the hall

Agreed, but his election helps tremendously with the backlog.

Rivera and Halladay are locks to get in on the first ballot next year. Edgar will also get in since it's his last year. Hoffman getting in and more importantly getting out od the way makes it more likely a fourth makes it goes in next year as well, Mussina maybe?

What sort of anti-logic nonsense is this.

i see whathe's getting at there; he's right in that his 'prime' was like 7 years but that's of course underappreciating his 5-win years prior where since he wasn't topping 20 HR he didn't seem like a behemoth

but an 18-year career going .312/.418/.515 is crazy good...David Ortiz ended with .286/.380/.552 and he'll flirt with first-ballot status

I guess I just don't understand the idea of it happening "too late." Like, is he saying because he wasn't that good when he was a younger player, it should count against him? Why?

And man, I was surprised at Ortiz only being a 50 fWAR player. I guess I just assumed he was 60+ even with the slow start to his career.

They managed to put four guys into the Hall who deserved it - Vlad, Chipper, Thome and Trammel (with the Veterans’ Committee). Also letting two in who don’t deserve it (Hoffman and Morris) is better than the petulant “nobody gets in” thing that had been going on recently.

Trout's already passed him

also with Trout, funny to consider the only realistic way he could possibly miss the Hall right now is if he has a 70 HR season

With Rivera and Halladay being the only new candidates that will enter the HoF discussion next year, I think E Martinez and Mussina make it in 2019.

Then I’m guessing Bonds and Clemons finally make it in with Jeter in 2020.

i will definitely take that bet, and say writers won't let juicers taint the induction of did-it-the-right-way guy Jeter

Channeling the East Coast mentality here.... Jeter will be elected all alone. He deserves to have the stage to himself.

Clemens and Bonds aren't going to progress like normal candidates. There are plenty of voters who will never vote for them, that I don't know how to predict what happens with them. Absent some grand proclamation from the HOF or MLB, I'd bet on them being Veterans Committee guys.

I love the HOF as a museum and I don't really care about the ballot stuff, however, Bonds was HOFer well before he started taking steroids. They could take away all of his numbers before that and he's still one of the best. This might be the case for Clemens too, but I"m not so sure.
