We're probably going to have as many top 100 prospects as them too within a year.

That depends. If a former top 100 prospect has to go back to the minors due to not being any good, does he still count as a top 100 prospect? That could give them the edge.

Not to mention a big reason our farm system is barren is because they are playing on the big league team right now. Also, another got us a closer who helped win a WS. The other prospects got us a very good starter who is under team control for two more years after this.

Also their all-in approach to each season is going to lead to a massive rebuild very soon.

Whut.

that guy is a delusional loon who is always posting ramblings resembling this

Never trust anyone who is willing to post such things seemingly under their own name.

That's not his name....it's from a Keystone beer commercial campaign.

Holy horsefeathers.

So this guy is like all the dudes parroting "dilly dilly" left and right, except about a trillion times more embarrassing.

Wow.

I think it's fair to question where the Cubs will be after the 2021 season with so many guys ending their contracts or team control then (including Theo I believe), but I am confident that the Cubs will make the necessary preparations.

....It will be interesting to see how they plug holes this season, while talented they definitely could use some help at the deadline or other teams(like us) could pass them with big acquisitions.

This is my favorite part.

uh, what holes? We have exactly one player with expiring control after this season - Justin Wilson.

Theo might go on a permanent bender then with another ring or two. Meanwhile the Brewers and their fans can still celebrate 1982.

You can say the same thing about every team 3-4+ years out

Sorry guys, but we're about to be replaced atop the division power rankings because this guy has figured horsefeathers out. You must read the thread to appreciate how good this truly is.

The Wong for Myers/Hand deal is almost as funny as Gyroko for Kelvin Herrea. KC"s window of contention is probably not opening until 2021 so of course they'll trade for an about to be 30 year old who will probably be replacement level for his next two years of team control.

Someone get the Padres on the phone and offer Bote or LaStella for Hand!!!

Yes this is the part that’s always forgotten. Yes, it’s true that the Cubs have a bit of a reckoning coming post-2021, but the number of teams who can have high confidence about a huge chunk of their roster that far out is basically zero. Look at the 2014 Astros, Yankees, or Dodgers, there’s like 5 players max who played significant roles on those teams who still are this year.

The counterpoint you’ll hear is that since the Cubs’ system is so horrendous they won’t be able to backfill for players they’re losing. This fails to recognize that 1) the Cubs are still quite likely to have multiple (high-priced) stars in the form of a signed Bryant and someone like Harper, meaning the onus is more on the system to provide decent players instead of franchise cornerstones 2) 3-4 years is an eternity in refilling a system 3) the Cubs have proven their player development bonafides many times over and 4) even with that money spent on stars they’ll still have financial muscle over the rest of the division. The 2022 Brewers have Cain and Yelich for one year and Hader for 2, everyone else is bad or gone by then. Their farm system has like 2 more OFP 55 guys at the moment, that’s not gonna create a moat at all.

Cubs won a world series so it is really hard to knock them but the post world series years have been a disaster for them. They went from having one of the best rosters in baseball plus one of the best farm systems to having no farm system at all and a number of very dubious looking contracts.
