So I guess the moratorium on news during the World Series is now a moratorium on news during days where World Series games are played.

So I guess the moratorium on news during the World Series is now a moratorium on news during days where World Series games are played.

it always has been this way.

What's the point of the unofficial moratorium anyway? Fans of the teams that need a new manager are going to be talking about who their next manager is anyway. In some respects, actually naming the new manager probably is less of a distraction than people left guessing.

The moratorium probably made more sense before the internet.

it's definitely something from a bygone era, and the point is to try and get all writers to push the population's focus toward WS games.

I thought he was going to get the Yankees job.

Yankees look to be going internal. Tbh, Derek Jeter raiding the Yankees probably has them a bit wobbly right now, sorting out FO issues and managerial issues.

Color me not convinced that TheoJed are going to really go all-out for Bryce. If Bryce falls into a more lower range, maybe. But it seems fairly certain the Nationals will pony something close to 10/400. With Heyward and extensions coming up, yes, even with a 26 year old Bryce ... there would be some juggling for the Cubs to do. Keep in mind, there's rumors that Bryce and Boras might be pushing for more than 10 years, and when you factor in that it's likely to be the "standard" contract structure, that is something that's probably a bit backloaded, and I don't see it as incredulous to say that there would be some juggling to do.

Why would Heyward have anything to do with signing Harper? If anything I feel like we need Harper more than ever, cause Heyward contract is gonna be a flop. Might as well sign someone better instead of just trot the worse guy out there cause youre stuck with him.

The Ricketts can afford them both, KB, Willson and then some.

Honestly, I kind of think we'll see a super team era for a few years. Bryce signs, they'll hover above the luxury tax for a few years, then we'll see Theo leave when his and Rizzo, KB, Addy, Javy, and Schwarber all expire. Probably with a Bryce potential opt out too.

They'll still have Willy and Almora, tons of money to re-up some of the group, and a solid farm system back in place by then.

But, I definitely think Theo has everyone lined up for a reason. Even still though, they'll be in solid enough shape to be playoff contenders.

Adding Otani to the equation would be all so huge for the “super team” window

I don't get the "Theo will leave in a few years" stuff. Why would he do that? He left Boston to prove that what he accomplished in Boston wasn't a fluke or because of winning with the guys that were already there or whatever. He won a world series with the horsefeathering Chicago Cubs. What other mountains are their left for him to climb in baseball? He's a rock star in Chicago- much more so than he ever was in Boston. Why would he walk away from that?

He’s going to leave baseball and go fix the Cleveland Browns. You heard it here first

People with the drive to do what Theo has done generally don't get into a "there's nothing more for me to accomplish why don't I just keep doing what I'm doing" state of mind.

Peter Brand already took that job

He also explicitly stated in his first press conference that after 10 years a change is good, hence the reason there's a huge correlation between the core's FA timeline and his second 5 year contract. Assuming Theo leaves at that point, best case scenario would be Jed moving into his role and perhaps McLeod as GM (if he hasn't already taken a GM role elsewhere).

The obvious answer to the person to take Martinez’s bench coach spot is Otani’s head coach or pitching coach or closest confidant he has in Japan.

ozzie guillen openly campaigned for the role when asked about it lol

it would, at the very least, be insanely entertaining watching sox fans flip out

theo said a lot of things at that press conference and he's very good with words and with explaining things, but that whole 10 years thing is overblown. he was miserable in boston and came up with an old quote from Bill Walsh to explain at his introductory press conference why he left a sinking ship that was going down in flames. (he also said "Every season is sacred" and talked about dual fronts, trying to win and trying to build at the same time at that press conference)

by all accounts, he is not miserable here, and I can't see him leaving for at least as long as this team is winning divisions and giving him chances to add more jewelry to his collection. if it wasn't for his miserable relationship with ownership and lucchino (or, in other words, if he had a relationship there like the one he has with ownership here) i doubt he would've ever left.

It’s a lock. The Cubs have way too much going for them with this lineup to not do to the MLB what the Warriors have done to the NBA.

the dodgers have that too, only probably better, with more money, and the MLB playoffs are a crapshoot, which the nba playoffs aren't in any way.

Ok, but people change and their priorities change. For those of you that have kids, consider how much that has changed your priorities.

That being said, I completely discounted the idea that an ungrateful fan base might demand he be fired if the Cubs don't win another title in the next 5 years.

yet leaving after 2021 gives him the time to run the DNC for pending 2024 election against Trump Jr.
