Holy horsefeathers. A move! Not a Cubs move, but a move nonetheless.

I wonder if they plan on using him as a starter or reliever, if it’s as a starter that could be an indication they are out on Otani

They are evidently going to use him as a starter. But, they've not even presented yet. They're not out on him. Plus, they've got multiple holes in their rotation anyway.

Or they could use him like the Cubs have used Montgomery to help them go to a 6-man rotation.

Heyman says 2/$15.5 million.

I was very interested in him as a 5th starter.

Agreed, if Ohtani happens to not work out where they have to grab Cobb and someone else, Mikolas was neck and neck with Chatwood for me.

What are the chances everyone already knows who got Ohtani and that is why signings are coming out?

the odds that everybody knows and nobody is leaking are extremely low.

the extremely low cost of Ohtani also means he's not really holding everything up

I'd take odds that even he doesn't know where he's signing yet.

I could see the Mikolas signing by the Cardinals somewhat being a byproduct of this, not that they know where Ohtani is going just that they knew they were out so moved on to another option

I thought the Cubs just presented earlier today???

Wily Peralta got a major league deal with the Royals, he’s been a guy I’ve liked for a while to try and turn in to a relief pitcher on a minor league deal. Didn’t think there was any way he’d get a major league deal.

Really, really, really, really smart visionary, Aj Preller, wants to spend a 9 figure deal on the easiest position to fill in MLB to sign Eric Hosmer who’s been worth literally 0, 3.5, -.1 and 4.1 fWAR the last 4 years. So smart.

Probably smarter than trading for Matt Kemp. #progress #savvy #savvyprogress

This would help them reach their 77-85 win mediocrity hell they seem fine to be in

What am I missing in Ozuna that has people so down on him?

He’s a perfectly fine player, but he is more of a nice complimentary player than a middle of the order anchor they need/want and will be costly in terms of acquisition cost and is another example of them not getting a player they really want/need and have to settle for a player a tier or 2 below what they were going for.

Ok, fair enough. I guess most consider him unlikely to reproduce last season’s output?

More or less, yes. I see him more as a low-mid 20s HR .260-270/.310-.325/.435-.450 type guy he’s been most of his career and not the 35+HR and .030-.050+ points higher across the board on the triple slash line he was last year. Along with averagish defense in CF and above average in the corners. Again a perfectly fine player but not a lineup anchor, necessarily.

Moore traded to Texas.

I will always appreciate Moore for dominating us for 8 innings so that we could complete the largest 9th inning comeback in postseason history
