I like it. We get a good reliever and backup C and it keeps Wilson from going to another contender..

And we get Wilson for next year, with Davis and Uehara free agents.

Good point. I hope we make a run at Davis but it's good to have his replacement if we don't.

So we got to keep Candy?

No, it sounds like it's Candelario, Paredes and possibly a PTBNL/cash.

Well what's that fangraphs chart all about?

Neither of those guys are Cubs prospects. Fangraphs fucked up.

I'm glad we managed to cash in Candelerio for something. I know Paredes was one of the last things resembling a prospect in our once mighty farm system, but having a depleted farm system is a lot easier to swallow when you have a big league team like ours.

I'm not going to be bored until the deadline. Theo's done some early shopping and filled two needs for next year cheaply $$$ with Q/ Wilson. He's got some bullets left and plenty of $$$ to pull something else off.

What would a deal for Verlander look like now?

It would start with Schwarber.

If the Tigers won't eat a significant amount of money it starts with a bag of baseballs not Kyle Schwarber.

Sucks for Avila. Going from a starting catcher to a backup

Counterpoint: He's got a chance to win a ring.

Also if we get a cushion it wold be nice to get Willy extra rest down the stretch, as this is his first full season and he's been playing a lot more than is probably ideal since Montero was jettisoned.

Does Zagunis/Duensing/Grimm/lottery ticket not get us Verlander if we pay the salary and clear all the roster space we need once we send Tiny Carrot down?

Edit: eh, maybe not. But if you add Caratini to the deal instead of the lottery ticket, maybe.
