Basically that he was just a 1st round pick and he's only 20 but yeah he looks like a bench player.

 

Maybe he takes to a revamped swing with the launch angle revolution or something but the likelihood is so remote. The guy sucks.

Something is very odd about those projections. Either they project the Cubs to finish at 88 wins and finish 5 games ahead of the Brewers, or they project the Cubs to play at an 88 win pace and tie the Brewers at 86 wins. Either option makes their divisional series odds for the Cubs(22%) and Brewers(64%) insane.

That's one Cubs target off the list. Also sounds like the the Astros are pushing hard for Sonny Gray. My hope is they include Jed Lowrie in the deal because he is only allowed to play for those two teams.

10:40am: The Mariners and Marlins have reportedly agreed to a trade that will send right-handed setup man David Phelps from Miami to Seattle in exchange for a package of four prospects. Center field prospect Brayan Hernandez is the headliner, while the other names in the deal reportedly include right-handers Brandon Miller, Pablo Lopez and Lukas Schiraldi.

 

And yes, Lukas Schiraldi is the son of Calvin.

a risk the cubs could've probably afforded to take, but seems like a pretty big risk for milwaukee to take, even with their payroll obligations pretty clear going forward

I get it. They're doing it through slugging, which is more volatile and doesn't correlate as well as OBP. The point remains, scoring runs isn't their issue. It's preventing them. Verlander, despite not being vintage Verlander is by no means bad and should see a bump from a league change. If it's a low prospect cost and they can always flip him in the offseason or later if he's producing, why not?
