I was correctly declaring Soler to be handsome garbage a while ago. You may all praise me now.

i seem to remember you sticking on the bandwagon a little longer than most, but when you turned, you turned hard

Someone so beautiful shouldn't be so disappointing. But yeah, I am a savage betrayer.

Just looked at Soler's stats. The dude has doubled-down on a patient approach (40% swing) and is showing a strong discernment on pitches to swing at... and he's been rewarded with a 250 wOBA. Of course he still pours on the negative defensive value. He horsefeathering sucks.

Wonderful trade by Theoyer. Really hope this gives us a slight inside edge to bringing Davis back after the season. Doubtful but who knows.

What I will say is that I proposed Soler + Grimm for Justin Wilson before the season and let's just say, the idea was not met with positive responses. Who cares. No big deal.

But JFC that would have been a coup. Wilson has been ridiculous. Now he's gonna get a massive haul if they move him at the deadline.

Your Justin Wilson hard on amuses me.

Normally I'd like to take joy in the early returns suggesting that we "won" a deal, but I really want to see Soler succeed. Just really like that dude and had high hopes for him.

Soler is a guy that I'll always associate with the beginning of the Theo era. I can see where people have a soft spot for him. Even if he panned out he was likely going to be a guy that couldn't stay healthy and therefore caused lots of frustration.

Wade Davis has been everything we asked for, although it does concern me slightly that he couldn't go for a 3rd straight day after pitching only 1 time in a 15 day span from May 17 - June 1st. He did go 3 straight days earlier this year, although that time he only threw 23 combined pitches the first 2 days. This time around he threw 34 pitches.

It doesn't concern me that he "couldn't", but I am glad they didn't try and make him to it.

I saw where Soler had been sent down yesterday.

Call me crazy, but would a lot of time off necessarily have a cumulative on the numbers of days a closer can pitch in a row? Plus it's not like he wasn't doing anything as a pitcher during that time. If he starts getting into a series where he's going out there each day, I don't think on the third day his body is going to react, like, "well, usually I can't do this very well (or at all), but since I only pitched once in two weeks prior to the last two days of pitching, I can!"

i am totally fine with davis never pitching three days in a row barring extreme circumstances. and early june against the shitty cardinals does not qualify as extreme circumstances.

Fine you all made smart points. I guess I just get concerned that he's having more elbow issues when he does not pitch a 3rd day in a row after such a light recent workload when he's done it before this year.

yeah, especially in the middle of a 13 day stretch without an off day, i'm more than fine with them not pushing him, especially since there's at least some depth in the pen.

This is one of um's weirder posts. I had less than zero expectation that he'd pitch last night and I wouldn't have been happy if he had

there is no way that's true

Yeah, that's where I'm at... Huge difference between "couldn't" and "didn't".

For all the reasons the other posters already stated, it was a smart move not to pitch him... Of course that's easy to say because it worked. With 2 outs in the top of the 9th against the Yankees, I was feeling really good about Strop going two innings for the save when Davis wasn't available to pitch- yeah...

So is it even a question that Wade is getting a QO anymore? At this point I see it as a no lose. We either get a pick or we get a lights out closer on a 1/18ish type deal.
