I see where Joe was coming from on the bunt call, despite Javy striking out just 40% of the time on 3-2 counts instead of 80% like he hyperbolized. Sure, he was 3 for his last 5 in 3-2 counts, but in that situation, if you let him swing away, no matter where that pitch is, he's swinging. If you tell him to bunt, if that pitch is not a strike, he's actually going to take the pitch. If it's a strike, it's a good pitch to bunt. Only way it doesn't work is if he whiffs the bunt, which is what happened.

I really want to click on the Maddon strategy article, but I was so angry at him during Game 7 and I haven't been angry at him since we won. I don't want to be angry about anything from this year.

Now that it's over I wouldn't change a thing, but rewatching this stuff makes me nervous knowing how close we were (Joe was) to blowing it.

Two big things we don't get if Cubs bullpen locked down the win in regulation:

1. Rizzo's reaction to Zobrist's 2B.

2. The drama of the other team having the World Series winning run at the plate during the last out. Seriously, this is such a rare occurrence. It has to be in the bottom half of a game 7 in the 9th inning or later for it to be possible for both teams to be able to win the World Series on ONE PITCH. Royals/Giants had this situation in 2014. But it cannot be all that common.

Don't forget not having Chapman in the final out photos.

This cannot be understated.

I was kinda hoping Arrieta would come in for the 10th, and get the last out with a K, but Monty inducing the Bryzzo moment is probably even better.

Yeah. In the moment I really wanted Jake to be the guy on the mound to end it.

when do they unveil what the rings will look like? is it not until they're handed out on opening day? hopefully they'll rival the 2012-2013 hawks rings

I think ring night is home game 2.

Why wouldn't it be home game one?

And, yeah, I imagine they'll be insanely gaudy.

I thought I read someone post on this board that the rings aren't being handed out until game 2?

"A recent trip to Ikea led me to purchase a Fuuong sofa sleeper. Upon bringing the Fuuong home and following the wordless directions that consisted solely of what I can only assume is a nudist Ziggy pointing at different pieces of the sofa sleeper, I found that one of the legs of the sofa sleeper was just under an inch shorter than the others. I called the 800 number for Ikea customer service but my conversational Swedish is limited to what I learned from the chef on the Muppets. Apparently, "Horgy, horgy, horgy" does not translate to, "The sofa sleeper you sold me has a short leg." Undaunted, I set out to find a solution. I decided that I could shim the short leg to give it the stability my sofa sleeper would need to hold up to the many uses I had planned for it. Those uses include: sitting on it with my right leg crossed over my left, sitting on it with my left leg crossed over my right, sitting on it with both legs on the floor, laying on it facing east, laying on it facing west, pulling the bed out of it and sleeping on it facing left, pulling the bed out of it and sleeping on it facing right, vigorous but tender love making, and sitting on it to play video games. The shim, sadly, did not hold up to each of these activities. Once, during a fitful, sleepless night because of the wobbling instability of the Fuuong, I had an inspiration. What if I could find a book that was nearly the same thickness as would be necessary to make up for the deficit in the short leg? I began to search Amazon.com for a book that was approximately 232 pages. At last I found one, titled "A Season For The Ages" by noted childhood comic book letter writing enthusiast Alvin Yellon. I purchased the book and slid it under the short leg on my sofa sleeper. It proved to be nearly adequate, and as a result of the passable amount of stability it provides my Fuuong I can now perform additional activities safely, such as eating bologna sandwiches while sitting, going to bed hours before I actually need to sleep to insure that I get my preferred spot on the sofa sleeper, and voicing strong, but mostly irrational opinions to no one in particular. I will admit that I did not read the book before I wedged it under the defective sofa sleeper leg. Just from the description on the book jacket it appears that the book would be a tedious slog to read, full of insights that are fueled only by 20/20 hindsight and a well worn bittnerness born of decades of off-putting smugness. I actually purchased the book used for 75 cents and feel that I overpaid considerably."

But seriously, I just read some of the excerpts and it is, in fact, horrible.

Haven't read it all yet but this looks like a really good article breaking down Game 7

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18357248/masterpiece-fall-classic-greatest-game-ever

Hahaha, on Rizzo's HBP...

five pitches were further inside in this game, including one Jason Heyward swung at, and none of them hit the batter.

Nice read. Still basking in the glory of the WS win.

I really liked the part about Martinez batting with the season on the line. Funny how in any major sport, you would never dream of putting it in anyone's hands except your superstar. But in baseball, the Indians had to hit the worst hitter in baseball as the winning run with 2 out.

Among active players with at least 500 career plate appearances, Martinez's OPS+ is the worst. The difference between him and the second-worst active player -- backup catcher Drew Butera -- is as large as the gap between Butera and the 18th-worst, backup catcher Erik Kratz. There are a lot of backup catchers in this territory, and they're all better hitters than Martinez.

I never once even really considered why Michael Martinez was even in the game. Pretty wild that you could probably give Heyward a fair amount of credit there. What a horsefeathering game.

Yeah, the Heyward stuff early in the article got a little flowery for my tastes, but the Heyward as unwitting hero stuff was fascinating.

I haven't read or heard an interview with Bosio yet re the post season. I always enjoy hearing his opinion cuz he doesn't sugar coat anything.
