These predictions were terrible. Dex waited until the 4th pitch, and Javy's was the only of the 3 Cubs HRs that did NOT match that description.

Do better next time.

I demand a team full of catchers next season. Catchers are the greatest.

And Shortstops.

Why can't they make the whole team out of catchers and shortstops?

Didn't hendry do that once?

Whatever happened to that "I only said it would be worth it" 'shop of Theo's face on that picture of Jesus? That needs to make an appearance in this thread.

tribune shop website is completely worthless

I don't know if anyone has helped you already but wait until tomorrow. I don't think they let you order today's paper until the next day. That's what happened to me after the NLCS clincher. Had to wait until Monday to order Sunday's paper.

Man, just got hit with anger/sadness that Fred isn't here to enjoy this. He deserves this. #F-Cancer

I like to think he started the rain last night.

Awesome thought, man.

I posted a few times in the thread last night but it was too difficult to keep up since I had family with me as I watched so now I've completely read the entire thread, and cried a few more times in the process. Just a couple thoughts.. a co-worker today, who has zero interest in baseball, told me she watched the entire game last night and was riveted. She told me that she was really drawn to the Cubs because they seemed much more like a "team" and the players appeared to genuinely like each other and gave off the vibe of all being "BFF's". That is what I love most about this team. The fact that no one person has an ego above the others and that they all appreciate what each person brings to the table. That is what makes them special to me and that is what I will take away most from this championship.

Lastly, it's all still too surreal. I was unable to really do any work today and I'm now home re-watching the game and post-game from last night in a much more relaxed manner. I look forward to my trip to Chicago in a week and a half as I can't wait to get pictures of the marquee and the AC sign. I only wish I could be there for the parade because that will be amazing.

Thank you Tim for this site and thank you guys and gals for all your posts, good and bad. We now know how it feels to be fans of the greatest team in baseball!

I went to a middle school championship game tonight and I couldn't focus at all. I think I may have really seen only 5 plays. I had tears in my eyes with Eddie Vedder's song going over and over and over in my mind. I wore my Cubs hat and jersey and I only had 2 people say anything to me as I walked around (I live in Florida) -- but I didn't care. I was 12 years old again. Tonight I was in my bedroom listening to Lou Boudreau on the radio. I was watching Jack Brickhouse on WGN call Ernie Bank's 500th home run with his trademark, "Hey, Hey!" I was so excited about a routine ballgame in the summer of 1974 that I totally forgot about my last little league game of the year that day and the thought of it didn't occur to me until my Dad came home and asked if we had won. I said "yes." Of course, he meant my little league game. I meant the Cubs win.

I joined this site in 2004, and while I haven't posted much, I have often been a part of the game threads. I've been here when no one was posting much on this board -- just 3 years ago. You guys, whether you know it or not, have been a big part of my Cubs life and I am thankful to celebrate the greatest game of our lives together.

I FEEL KIND OF SAD THAT THERE ARE NO MORE GAMES

i find the relief delightful

I felt like the 2016 Chicago Cubs were baseball cocaine at times.

The Jason Heyward leading the meeting in the dugout may be the best sports story I have ever heard. I don't care how badly Jason batted this year, his leadership at the age of 27 made his contract worth every penny. I am still in shock.

When Davis hit the tying homer my 10 year old that had never really been a part of past Cubs failure began to cry uncontrollably. I had flashbacks of my childhood and that similar moment in 1984 when I was a 14 year old kid and the same as a 33 year old in the bleachers in 2003.

At that moment, I looked at my kid and wondered how could I do this to her. I then remembered what she told me in Game 4 against the Giants. "The Cubs always win these games Dad". In a moment when I wanted to wallow in doom, I said those same words to her.

I probably didn't believe what I was saying and while curses don't exist, you can be overwhelmed by the moment. The stories of players crying in the clubhouse as well is just fascinating to me. Like my daughter many of them are really just kids.

So thanks to Jason and the other leaders of the team having that confidence as well. It made for stressful but amazing theater.

I don't miss playoff/world series baseball. That horsefeathers was stressful. But I do miss the idea of just having a game to watch. I wonder how the regular season will feel. There is going to be a different feel and dynamic when it comes to this ball club now and it's going to be odd. I look forward to it.

Hahaha Fat Lance is butthurt 13 years later

Lance Berkman: No one was sorrier to see the Indians lose to the Cubs than the former Astros slugger. Appearing on an iHeart radio show Thursday morning, Berkman talked about several bad memories tied to the Cubs, including in June 2003 when fans sitting in Wrigley Field's left-field bleachers tossed Twinkies at him as they mocked his physique.

"Yes, I wanted the Indians to win. I hate the Cubs. In fact, I don't know if you remember this but I volunteered to push the button if they ever wanted to blow up Wrigley Field," Berkman said.

Well, Wrigley Field is where all the scary mean lightning is, so I can understand his perspective.

We're going to have a horsefeathering ring ceremony on opening day

holy horsefeathers

they should also hang banners on the new west exterior of the park by the plaza

anyway, yeah, going into the offseason without disappointment is a lot less sad. not to mention it's a month shorter than usual. i'm just going to soak this in all horsefeathering winter.

Suddenly "Wait Til Next Year" has a completely different meaning. We're not saying it in a depressing, hopeless way. We're saying it in a cocky "We're the next sports dynasty" way. That's something to get used to.

I'm still overwhelmed, so I don't have much to say right now. Just trying to help push the thread towards 108.

Eight to go.

Much safer counting down pages than outs. ;-)
