So I have been a Cubs fan since 1984 ..Here is how my yesterday started....go to the garage there is a mouse on top of my car, try to start my car it wont turn over, call USAA they come out and it wont jump start either so it gets towed, spend half the day at a mechanic only to learn the batter was leaking acid. Just had my oil changed last Wed at the dealership you think they could have given me a heads up. Middle of the day my border collies back legs stop working. He sleeps so do the Cubs bats. Take the dog to the vet and they say he also has a heart and circulation issue. I have to put him down and I am pretty much crushed. Cubs bats are also put to sleep but I dont really care about that right now....Today CANNOT be worse than yesterday. CANNOT

Good God, that's an awful day. Kind of puts things into perspective. Sorry about your pup.

I'm generally not at all superstitious. But if I was, I wouldn't be antagonizing the spirit of the goat, I'd be embracing it. I'd also recommend that every active poster here were to change their avatar to a billy goat. I have a good feeling about it. Just do it.

Yeah, I never understood why the Cubs didn't have a rally goat. The rally monkey worked for the Angels.

Cubs need to overcome adversity now, Every WS Champ of the last 5 years has been down 2 to 1 or worse.. 3 to 2 and even 3 to 1 (2012 Giants). Champs need to overcome adversity usually,

If we cant, well then we dont deserve it.

since the site bogs down to the point of being nearly unusable while anything happens in games, I don't know if we have sufficiently beaten to death how dumb the selfie celebration is?

Oh come on, they're the funny dads!

Speaking of silly superstitions, whatever happened to the fail-safe NSBB game-thread guru? Don't recall his name, but he didn't post much, other than starting the occ. game thread when we really needed a win? Because this would be a good time for him to resurface.

Butters?

This is easily the most uneasy I've been going into a game this season; they just looked SO bad last night. Game 2 you can chalk up to a combination of a whole lotta Kershaw getting his horsefeathers together and a little bit of bad luck, but last night just seem to really drive home just how poorly so much of the lineup is doing, even by the small sample size standards of the playoffs. Hill seemed like a jumpy, jittery wreck for the first 3 innings or so last night and his pitching reflected that, and they couldn't do anything with it. It still blows my mind a little that after how bad Hill looked in the 2nd inning the Cubs still got shut out and barely even got anyone on base after that. As much as this bugs us, this has to weigh infinitely more on the players' minds, and I can't help but worry they're just going to keep pressing and not-hit themselves out of a still very winnable series.

So over my six years as an advisor here at East Carolina I can't ever recall a student wearing a cubs hat to their appointment. This morning I had two girls wear a cubs hat and both said they didn't realize I was a cubs fan. Which is odd since my walls are littered with Cubs stuff. Anyway, I think it's a sign - we got this one.

Good post. One of the few in this thread.

My unlikely star with the bat for tonight is Heyward.

Seriously though, that would be nice for any Cub to be a star with the bat tonight, especially for Heyward.

Yeah, Heyward's looked too sad and too confused at the plate for too long to expect any offense out of him. Anyone else though.

I've come to realize that we lost the last 2 games because Fred wasn't here to tell us the Cubs record when they've scored 0 runs (horsefeathers you cancer). So I'll fix that little jinx.

The Cubs are 0 and X when scoring 0 runs (where X represents the number of times we've scored 0 runs in a game).

GO CUBS

Basically let's stop wondering who the unlikely hitter will be and start wondering who the likely hitter is who will start hitting, because it's basically Baez and Bryant and nobody else.

So the Dodgers are going to win the World Series. Got it.

I'm mostly kidding. Just wanted to point out hey came from 2-1 down vs Washington.

i know statistically we're in a worse position today than we would've been, but i felt wayyyyy worse when i thought we were ready to go to game 5 vs cueto

Yep, I think it's the length of the series. And that I'm relatively optimistic about Kershaw on 3 days rest v. Lester on regular rest.

This is where the mental magic of Joe Maddon comes in. These are still the same guys they were from April-September, so there's no reason to expect them to stay down.

When the Cubs win tonight, I would assume Roberts will go to Kershaw in game 5? Wanting to go to Chicago up 3-2 not down 3-2? Also having him available in relief in a possible game 7?
