haha i didn't realize Neifi had the same number as Castro. Thats an interesting parallel here, Neifi being one of the biggest targets of hate (deservedly so) and Castro a fan favorite.

I hated Dusty as much for his bizarre fascination with terrible players as much as anything else

Jose Macias was like off-brand Neifi.

funny thing is neifi was a worse hitter by a decent margin. which isn't surprising, i guess, because isn't neifi basically the worst hitter ever?

Maybe when they brought him up and he was the face of the future for the rebuilding Cubs, but then he was quickly eclipsed by many better young players

If you can't OPS more than .800 just once in 5 years at Coors in the early 2000s, then, man....you're terrible

It wasn't all that quickly. Not even Rizzo was called up until the middle of Castro's third year in the league.

I just don't think he was ever much of a fan favorite. Polarizing, at least.

Meatballs hated him. Most cool people liked him until the last season.

yep. and even then he came up big at the end of the season/playoffs so we still ended up liking him and ending on a good note.

logically i know he's not as talented as the rest of the MI, but it doesn't mean i still don't miss him. i think he won me over with his huge game in his debut in Cincinnati.

I feel like he kind of morphed into fan favorite when he did a lot of goofy things on the first good Cubs team in quite some time.

He was hated for a while by some because he did things people thought were lazy.
